Bowie 8, Binghamton 4

From Press Release:

Binghamton committed a season-high five errors defensively and permitted 15 hits to the Bowie Baysox, who swept away the short two-game series with an 8-4 win at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night. Eddie Kunz was charged with the loss after allowing five runs over five-plus innings. The loss marks eight in a row, which is the longest such streak since the team lost eight straight July 25-August 1 during the 2005 season.

The B-Mets led 4-3 entering the sixth inning, but a costly error led to a big inning for the Baysox. Robbie Widlansky and Caleb Joseph singled their way on base off Kunz to force his departure. Josh Stinson was summoned from the bullpen to face Pedro Florimon, Jr. Florimon bunted down the third base line, Stinson attempted to get the lead runner at third, but threw the ball away, bringing Widlansky and Joseph in to push Bowie back into the lead 5-4. Ryan Adams put the finishing touches on the inning with a two-out, RBI single, plating Florimon.

Bowie (19-21) extended the lead to four with a pair of runs off Clint Everts in the eighth. Joel Guzman and Brandon Waring dropped run-scoring singles in, upping the lead to 8-4.

The Baysox bullpen was stalwart, putting up four, no-hit innings to quell the Binghamton (19-20) bats. Zach Clark hurled the sixth and the seventh, issuing only a walk, and Mike Hinckley faced the minimum in the final two innings to seal the win for Tim Bascom. The starter tossed five innings and allowed four runs — two earned — for his third win.

Down 2-0 after a half inning, Binghamton plated a run in the first with the help of a Florimon throwing error. Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off the inning with a chopper to the left side that was ruled an infield hit. Florimon threw the ball into the first base stands, allowing Nieuwenhuis to take second. A Nick Evans groundout to second move him to third from where Marshall Hubbard drove him home with a groundout, cutting the lead in half.

In the second, the B-Mets rallied to even the score. Jose Coronado reached with one out on a fielder’s choice. Brahiam Maldonado followed, working the count full on Bascom before lining a double into the corner in left, plating Coronado to tie the score.

Bowie answered with a run in the fourth, but Binghamton responded with an RBI single from Mike Nickeas to tie the game at three.

The B-Mets only lead came in the fifth. Hector Pellot led the inning off with a ringing triple to center. After Nieuwenhuis and Evans flied out, Hubbard threaded the needle with a double down the line at first. Pellot walked home from third, pushing Binghamton into the lead 4-3 for the short term.
