LAST GAME: Richmond set franchise records with 19 hits and
11 runs in an 11-4 romp of the B-Mets Thursday afternoon.
The Flying Squirrels jumped on Chris Schwinden in the second
inning with a bases-clearing double from starter Ronnie Ray to
take a 3-0 advantage. Ray went 2-3 with a game-high five RBI,
in addition to tossing 4.2 innings of one-run work. Conor Gillaspie
was a perfect 5-5 with three runs scored to lead the
hitters. Schwinden was charged with the loss after allowing
five runs on 10 hits over four innings. Eric Campbell drove in
two runs with a pair of hits, highlighted by a two-run homer in
the sixth inning, his first since joining the B-Mets. Jose Coronado
also enjoyed a solid performance ripping two hits, including
a double, and driving in two runs. Jon Malo hit out of
the leadoff spot and rapped three hits, but was stranded after
each of them. Jake Stevens was credited with his second win
of the series for firing 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brad Holt has struggled
mightily since returning from a wrist injury at the outset of the
season. He has yet to work through five innings and was
roughed up for a season-worst seven runs on eight hits in 2.2
innings his last start at New Britain May 21, a losing effort.
Holt is 0-4 with a 13.20 ERA over 15 innings. Last season, he
made 11 starts for Binghamton with a 3-6 record and a 6.21
ERA in 58 innings. He is considered the No. 5 prospect in the
Mets system by Baseball America. Holt was drafted by the
Mets as a first round supplemental pick in 2008, going 33rd
overall out of UNC-Wilmington.
RHP Alex White is due to make his second career Double-A
start tonight versus the B-Mets. In his Akron debut, he impressed
with seven innings of two-run work to beat Harrisburg
May 23 at Canal Park. The hard-throwing righty opened the
season in Kinston’s (High-A) rotation and went 2-3 with a 2.86
ERA over eight starts (44 IP). White was taken 15th overall in
last year’s draft out of the University of North Carolina, signing
for $2.25 million. He is considered the No. 9 prospect in the
Cleveland Indians farm system by Baseball America.
