Trent Mummey:
5-4 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/03/sec-players-of-the-week-11 - PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Trent Mummey • Auburn - Junior • OF • Pinson, Ala. - • Hit. .500 (7-for-14) with three home runs, six runs scored and six RBI as Auburn won a midweek game over Samford and won its series at No. 7 Arkansas in what is being regarded nationally as the biggest series victory of the weekend for any team, also vaulting Auburn back into the Top 25. Two of Mummey’s homeruns came in the Arkansas series where he also drove in three runs.
Chris Sale:
5-3 from: http://www.baseballrumormill.com/2010/05/top-small-school-pitchers/#more – top small school pitchers: - Chris Sale, Florida Gulf Coast, LHP - Although Sale is only ranked 50th by Keith Law of espn.com, he's being rumored to be selected as high as #4 to the Kansas City Royals and there are rumblings that at least three other clubs in the Top 15 are interested. Why? Signability is the most likely scenario, but Sale is no pushover either. He's able to throw in the mid-90s and has a number of decent secondary pitches.
Drew Vettelson:
5-1 from: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/4/30/1452824/interesting-high-school-hitters#storyjump - Drew Vettelson, OF-RHP, Central Kitsap High School, Tracyton, Washington - The 6-1, 185 Vettelson is a switch-pitcher, hitting 90 MPH from the right side but a credible 85 from the left. He won't pull a Pat Venditte in pro ball, however, as most teams see him as an outfielder. He's expected to hit for average and be a sharp defender at either outfield corner, but there's some question about how much power he'll develop. A team willing to bet on his tools and future power could take him in the later part of the supplemental round or in the second round. He has an Oregon State commitment as leverage.
Aaron Barrett:
5-3 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/5/3/1455597/casing-the-states-mississippi#storyjump - Aaron Barrett, RHP, Ole Miss - Barrett has had a very long career in draft prospect circles, having already been a draftee three times. He was a 44th round draft pick out of high school back when the draft and follow system was in place, but the Dodgers chose not to sign after a year at Wabash Valley CC in Illinois. He went undrafted after his freshman year there, but was a 20th rounder in 2008 to the Twins. He didn't sign and headed to Ole Miss, where he practically imploded as a junior, becoming a 27th round pick of the Rangers at the end of the year. He had a solid summer, but the Rangers chose not to offer him a deal worth signing, and he returned for his senior year. He's been nothing but great since. He has used his above-average natural stuff to become an excellent complement to team ace Drew Pomeranz. He features a 90-93 mph fastball, above-average slider and an average changeup to deal with advanced SEC hitters. He's done nothing but boost his draft stock all year, and there's a good chance he's the first true senior arm taken in the draft, since James Paxton is no longer in school. Projected Draft Range: 3rd-6th Round
Dan Burkhart:
5-7 from: - http://baseballdraftreport.com/ - 2010 MLB Draft: Top 30 College Catching - 26. Ohio State JR C Dan Burkhart - Despite being a legitimate pro prospect in his own right, his biggest claim to fame may be convincing best friend and potential first rounder Alex Wimmers to join him for three years in Columbus. Burkhart is yet another good defensive catcher with a good batting eye and a questionable power ceiling. His scouting reports and his numbers come very close to Kevan Smith’s, but Burkhart’s higher probability of contributing gives him the edge over Smith’s higher upside. Burkhart also receives high marks for being one of the few catchers in the college game trusted to call his own pitches.
