Friday night in Milwaukee, Ike Davis returned to the big
club and Zach Wheeler pitched good enough to earn his 2nd win on the
year as the Mets started their 9 game road trip on a high note, beating the Brewers 12-5. Wheeler rebounded from
his worst outing of the year. While still not dominating, he showed raw talent
for getting out of jams as he went 5 innings allowed 7 hits 3 runs (only 1
earned) he walked 3 and struck out 3…he’s now 2-1. Offensively the Mets belted
out 14 hits. Ike Davis back from Las
Vegas came back hitting. Going 3 for 5 on the night with 2 rbi and a walk, Kirk
Nieuwenhuis had his best game of his career going 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and
a career high 5 rbi and a stolen base.
Juan Legares added 2 hits and 3 rbi, Eric Young Jr. had 2 hits and 3
runs scored. The Mets jumped all over
rookie Johnny Hellweg…getting to him for 7 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, he walked
5 and failed to strike out a batter.
With the win the Mets now stand at 36-47 overall and a surprising 19-20
on the road. Saturday afternoon is game two of the series. Shaun Marcum (1-9
5.06) gets the call for the Mets. Apparently his neck is good enough to go as he faces his former
team. Struggling ace Yovani Gallardo
(6-8 4.78) goes for the Brewers. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
