The Las Vegas 51s ended the Tucson Padres three-game winning streak
Saturday behind two home runs for a 5-2 win at Kino Stadium. The Padres remain
in first place in the Southern Division with a 1.5 game lead. Zach Lutz's solo
home run into the left field bullpen broke a scoreless tie in the fourth for
Las Vegas. Brian Bixler added another run in the inning for the 51s with an RBI
double to extend their lead to 2-0. Mike Baxter's two-run home run on the first
pitch he saw in the fifth put Las Vegas ahead by four. The final run for the
51s came in the seventh on Wilmer Flores's RBI infield single,Ben Francisco
brought around the first run for the Padres in the bottom of the seventh with
an RBI double to the left field corner. Two batters later, Jonathan Galvez's
RBI single cut the score to 5-2. Gonzalez German entered with two outs in the
eighth and struck out three of the five batters he faced to seal the win the
51s. Las Vegas starter Rafael Montero went seven innings allowing eight hits,
two runs and two walks for his first win at the Triple-A level. Tucson starter
Anthony Bass struck out a season-high nine batters in seven innings in the
loss. The Padres compiled ten hits in the game including Gregorio Petit's
third-inning single to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Next
