7/11/13

Mets Minor League Report - July 10

Las Vegas (47-44) bows to Salt Lake (51-43) 7-4.
Trailing 7-0 going into the 9th, the 51’s scored 4 runs, but came up short.
Matt Fox took a beating: 4.2 IP, 6 R, 8 H, 2 BB, 4 K.
Jack Leathersich didn’t fare well either: 1.1 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 K. As usuak, he gets his share of Ks.
Matt den Dekker: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R.
Wilmer Flores: 2-5, 2B, RBI, R.

Binghamton (53-33) – not scheduled - All Star Break.

St Lucie (46-40) tramples Charlotte (41-46) 9-4.
Hansel Robles got knocked around: 4.1 IP, 4 R, 11 H, (HR) 2 BB, 3 K.
He was picked up by three Mets relief pitchers, Randy Fontanez, (W, 6-6) 1.2 IP, H, 0 BB, 3 K, Tim Byrdak, 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, K, and T.J. Chism, 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K in a non-save situation.
Dustin Lawley makes the highlight reel again: 2-5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R.
Kevin Plawecki, playing 1B again: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R.
Kyle Johnson a recent acquisition, went 3-5 with 2 R. I have a feeling this kid bears watching.

Savannah (52-36) blanks Augusta (46-40) 1-0.
Three Sand Gnats pitchers, Marcos Camarena (W, 4-0) 6.1 IP, 8 H, 0 BB, 2 K, Hunter Carnivale 1.2 IP, 0 H, BB, K, and Paul Sewald (S, 3) 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K, combined for the shutout. Since his demotion from St. Lucie, in 9 games with Savannah, Camarena has looked outstanding, compiling a 1.50 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He has progressed slowly through the Mets organization (this is his 6th year) but he looks like he could mature into a good bull pen piece or a solid trade chip. Speaking of solid bull pen pieces, after an excellent debut year in Brooklyn last year, (1.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 10.99 K/9, and 0.62 BB/9 – that’s a K/BB ratio of 35/2 or 17.73. . . WOW!) Sewald has been putting up similar, although slightly less dramatic, numbers in Savannah.
Phillip Evans, 1-3, 2B, R scored the only run the Sand Gnats would need.

Brooklyn (9-13) @ Auburn (7-14) suspended after 3 ½ innings, Auburn leading 2-0.
The Cyclones have been held hitless through 4 innings by Auburn starter Jake Johansen.
Cyclones starter Carlos Valdez: 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, K in 3.0 IP.

Danville (9-9) routs Kingsport (8-12) 7-1.
Cory Oswalt (L, 0-1) did not pitch poorly, but took the loss: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 4 K.
Pedro Perez: 2-3, BB, R.

GCL Mets (3-11), DSL Mets1 (16-16) & Mets2 (17-14) – all postponed (rain)
