July 8th (and 9th) Mets 4, Giants 3 16 innings

Monday Night (Tuesday Morning) in San Francisco, Brandon Crawford flubbed a 2 out grounder in the top of the 16th allowing Eric Young to score the go ahead run. The Mets hang on in a marathon to beat the Giants 4-3. Some five hours and twenty-six minutes earlier Matt Harvey started for the Mets. Harvey was greeted by a first inning two run homer by Buster Posey to give the Jints the early 2-0 lead. Harvey held down the Giants as the Mets came back. Scoring 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to take a 3-2 lead. The Giants tied the game in the 7th against a tiring Harvey to make it 3-3..and on to extras they went. While the Mets bullpen pitched 9 scoreless innings they danced through raindrops while the Giants left the bases loaded twice in the extra frames. For the Mets it’s their 4th game they’ve played this year that was 15 innings or more. Crawford’s error came in the top of the 16th with runners on 1st and 3rd to give the Mets the lead for good. Matt Harvey obviously didn’t have his best stuff but like the good one’s do…he put together 7 very impressive innings allowing 6 hits the 3 runs he walked 1 and struck out 6. Tim Lincecum started for the Giants and was tough order for the Mets going 7 and striking out 11. John Buck cut the lead in half in the top of the 7th when his rbi double brought home Marlon Byrd. In the 6th the Giants defense let them down with sloppy play led to a triple by Eric Young Jr. Young scored on an rbi single by Daniel Murphy. Then a throwing error led the Mets third run (that came in on a double play). Josh Edgin gets the win He’s now 1-1. Bobby Parnell worked out of trouble in the bottom of the 16th to notch his 16th save. Buster Posey had a huge game in the losing cause…getting 5 hits for the first time in his career. With the win the Mets improve to 38-48 on the year and now stand a 21-21 on the road. Later today, the Mets and Giants do it again…Dillon Gee (6-7 4.45) goes for the Mets, Barry Zito (4-4 4.16) goes for SF. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
