The best of the B-Mets:
RF Cesar Puello – 22-yrs. old - .326/.403/.547/.950, 16-HR, 73-RBI – We’ve written ad nauseam about Puello who (I guess… I’ve heard nothing) sits in exile waiting for his suspension to come to an end. He’ll start off the 2014 season with Las Vegas and where he goes from there is in his bat. The Mets project him to be major league ready by July but they will have other plans in place if Puello stumbles (which I don’t think he will).
1B Alan Dykstra – 26-yrs. old - .274/.436/.503/.938, 21-HR, 82-RBI – This is the player I have had the most questions asked of me lately and, frankly, I have never seen him play a game. All the information I have ever received about him is second hand and it’s never good. Do you know the way critics say that Lucas Duda can’t play the outfield and is a first baseman? Well, according to people I have talked to, Dykstra can’t play first base, so where do we go from there? Obviously, the power is there, but so is the strikeouts (123 in 372 AB). Was basically platooned with Rhyne Hughes though his righty and lefty splits were pretty even. For now, send him to Vegas (which you should have done this past spring) and keep him around for emergency purposes.
CF Darrell Cecilliani – 23/yrs. old - .268/.322/.380/.702, 6-HH, 44-RBI, 31-SB – ‘DC’ almost played his first season without an injury but he’s quickly falling into that category of Mets outfield draft picks that just miss. Plays a very similar game that Matt den Dekker plays. There’s going to be a lot of these guys piling up in Vegas over the next few seasons.
OF Cory Vaughn – 24/yrs. old - .267/.346/.424/.769, 10-HR, 50-RBI – Like his good friends, Cecilliani, Vaughn has suffered nagging injuries and seasonal disappointments. Hit for power in 2012 (St. Lucie – 23-HRs) but only 10 in 2013 for three teams. Vaughn seems to remain untapped potential that probably will stack up with the other also-rans in the organization. It amazes me how the Mets can draft so any outfielders that just miss.
LHSP Darin Gorski – 25/yrs. old – 14-G, 13-ST, 6-1, 1.83, 0.86 – Gorski seems to be a very talented pitcher that the Mets need to let to develop. He wowed them in 2011 at St. Lucie, but went through a meh year in 2012 for Binghamton. The Mets rushed him to Vegas this year (4-G, 6.59). but he was returned to the B-Mets to work out his game (which he did: 14-G, 13-ST, 6-1). Anything goes for Gorski in 2014. He could start for Vegas or relieve for the Mets. We’ll have to wait and see.

It seems like we have so many outfielders that all have the same skill set. They are all in the den Dekker skill set. Even puello before this season. It would be nice if we had a wider range of skills throughout the outfield. Lawley seems to be the most interesting guy although some might disagree since he was beating up much young talent. Hope Lawley, Puello and Dykstra's bats get off to a good start in Vegas and can join the club over the summer. I would much rather see guys with live bats taking up bench spots as opposed to the singles hitters this team is flooded with.
yes were loaded with one dimensional players and as much as I'm in with the "Sandy " plan this "wait till next year" shit is getting REAL old. We're playing Flores who looks like he's in real pain and that makes no sense and Travis isn't exactly lighting it up with the bat....I know, I know small sample size but .154 .....ouch. I really like Lagares but the bottom line is Sandy HAS to do some real top notch GM-ing this winter as we all root for a total collapse to keep our draft pick protected next year and after 5 LONG losing season's that's what us Met fans have to look forward too.....thanks Freddy! As far as our manager goes how many of you believe TC comes back? I get he's been given a short deck to deal from but with the F.O. having given no indication the're extending him maybe it'll be Wally next year.

if they bat .300, they don't hit enough home runs...
if they lead their league in home runs, they struck out too much...
it seems to me a good standard of excellence would be leading their league in a stat
I think the front office likes TC because he takes orders well. Who to play, who to sit, etc. I'm guessing that's why we've seen TC make so many proclamations this year only to do the total opposite days later. If that's the FO's mindset, then there's no way we ever see Wally in the big seat.
On the outfielders, I'm guessing that they find a way to trade for/sign one OF and keep one spot open for one of Puello/Lawley to see if either ends up looking like a ML starter by the end of '14. that could mean going into next year with EY in LF, or else signing a solid vet to a 2 year deal (Marlon Byrd, c'mon home!) which would seem to give them some protection in case neither of the kids is really ready. We shall see.
I just don't see Backman in Queens.
I agree with you about the amount of outfielders Alderson will go after, but everything is going to be based on whether or not the Mets get a protected draft pick.
As much as I respect TC it is time for a change. A new voice to lead them. Good comments up above
Sandy does have work to do bigtime. I like his approach but it is on the conservative side. Make a move that could make a big impact. Take a chance by dealing dealing a player you are hesitant to part with but yet could bring a return that could get us back in the hunt again. I'm tired of losing as you all are.
T.C deserves to be brought back for 2014. The manager has to play the cards he is dealt, and Terry has had a pretty meager hand in 2013 and made the most of it. Only so much is under the manager's control. Has he made some bad decisions in managing when replacing pitchers? Sure, but every manager makes some decisions he'd like to have back. The thing that I feel most strongly is that every single player busts it, runs hard, dives for catches, etc. You haven't seen one player dog it down to first base. That's attitudinal, one of the few things that the manager does affect. So I say bring Terry back.
2. Two! That's the number of new outfielders that S.A. needs to acquire this winter. By FA signing or trade makes no difference. I agree with Mack that a lot depends on our draft position. A protected pick will enable the signing of one of the better FAs. I'd like to see one big bopper and one high OBP speedster. Too many possibilities to enumerate. Ellsbury, Choo, Pence, Cruz, Rajai, Hart, CarGo, Bautista, etc. etc.
