4-11-15 - Minor League Recap

Mets minor league player of the day  -  Gabe Ynoa: a Greg Maddux like outing, no runs or walks in his 7 inning stint.

Honorable Mention  -   several: Marcos Molina, Paul Sewald, Eric Campbell, Brandon Allen, Alex Castellanos, Stefan Sabol, Champ Stuart and Michael Conforto.  A lot, but the whys and wherefores are spelled out below.

The Mets can't beat rebuilding Atlanta, but no surprise, all 4 Mets minors squads win. Won't be the last time that happens.

AAA - Las Vegas 51's (1-2) 7 - Fresno (2-1) 2

Bats come to life in Fresno for Las Vegas, with 3 homers to support solid pitching in the 51s' first win of 2014.

RPs Zach Thornton, John Church, Scott Rice - the 4 combined for 4 scoreless innings, 4 K, 3 by Church in 9th. Nice work.

LHSP Darin Gorski (1-0) - 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 5 K in his start. His error led to the 2 unearned.  Good to see him succeed in AAA, even if wild, given his past struggles in AAA.

    1B Brandon Allen - 2-3, 2 BB, 2 run HR, .364

     3B Eric Campbell - 1-3, 2 BB,  2B, .500

     DH Alex Castellanos - 2-5, 2B, HR, 2R, 2 RBI, .375

     CF Darrell Ceciliani - 1-3, HR, BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, .125

AA -     Binghamton Mets  (2-1)  2  -  Akron (1-2)  0

   RHSP Gabriel Ynoa -  7.0-IP, 5-H, 0-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 0.00 (1-0)

    SS Gavin Cecchini -   2-2, 1-R, 1-RBI, .375

    RHRP Paul Sewald - 2.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R 2-K, 1-BB, 1-SV, 0.00

Great shutout, 2nd in a row for the B Mets.  Hitting is coming slowly for the B Mets, but it's only 3 games. Good game for Cecchini.

A+ - St. Lucie Mets  (3-0)  3  -  Bradenton  (0-3)  2

   RHSP Marcos Molina -     6.0-IP, 5-H, 2-ER, 6-K, 1-BB, 3.00

    DH Michael Conforto -   1-3, 1-R, 1-HR (1), 2-RBI, .400

    CF Champ Stuart -  1-2, 1-R, 1-RBI, .500

    RHRP Robert Coles - 1.0-IP, 0-R, 0-R, 2-H, 1-SV, 0.00

Having skipped Savannah, Marcos Molina's debut was excellent, allowing only 2 runs in his 6th and final inning.

Hitters keep pounding, led by 2 more hots from red-hot Champ Stuart, who also stole his 3rd base in 3 games, and Michael Conforto's inaugural St Lucie homer.  Better yet, it was a come-from-behind shot in the 8th to give the team its final margin of victory.  Way to go, Michael.

St Lucie, unsurprisingly, is 3-0.

A - Savannah Sand Gnats  (1-2)  11 - West Virginia (2-1) 4

   RHSP Casey Meisner -   5.0-IP, 6-H, 2-ER, 4-K, 3-BB, 3.60 (1-0)

   DH Steve Sabol -  3-5, 1-R, 1-HR(1), 4-RBI, .444

    C Tomas Nido -   2-5, 1-R,  .200

    LF Patrick Biondi -   1-2, 2-R, 3-BB, .500

    CF John Mora  -  3-5, 1-R, 1-BB, .417

In his first Savannah start, Meisner pitched reasonably well to notch the win, the Gnats' first of 2015.  John Mora is picking up from last year, as in hitting and getting on base a lot.  Breakout offensive showing for the Gnats.

Underperformers du Jour - shared crown for Matt Reynolds and Kevin Plawecki, now both hitless thru 3 games after both went 0-5.

Does anybody know if Molina improved his mechanics at all? If not, should we continue to be excited about him right up until the inevitable happens?
