April 12th 2015 -- Mets 4, Braves 3

Daniel Murphy came through with a pinch hit sac-fly in the top of the 8th inning breaking a 3 all tie. The Mets salvage the third game of their three game set with the Braves Sunday 4-3.  The Mets had the lead twice in the game and lost it.  In the top of the 1st, Michael Cuddyer took a Alex Wood pitch over the left field wall for a 2 run homer. For Cuddyer his first as a Met.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and he yielded the lead in the bottom of the 2nd when the resurgent Andrelton Simmons hit a 2 run triple to tie the game at 2.  Colon took things into his own hands in the top of the 4th with an awkward punch single to right to score Wilmer Flores and the Mets led 3-2. That lead held, till the bottom of the 7th when Jonny Gomes hit his first homer as a Brave…and the game was locked at 3.  The Mets loaded the bases in the 8th and with 1 out Murphy pinch hitting for Colon got the sac-fly that gave the Mets the lead for good. Colon pitched very well once again going 7 innings allowing 6 hits 3 runs (all earned) walking none and striking out 5.  Carlos Torres started the 8th for the Mets and was relieved by Jerry Blevins who struck out Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman to douse a minor threat. After managing only 3 hits on Saturday night, the Mets were led by Lucas Duda with three hits (all against lefties) and a pair of hits by David Wright. Curtis Granderson went hitless as a pinch hitter but walked for the 7th time in the new season.  For Colon it was his first RBI in 10 years (and it looked it). Colon gets the win he’s now 2-0.  Juan Jaime takes the loss he falls to 0-1. Blevins stayed in to retire A.J. Pierzynski to lead off the 9th.Jeurrys Familia in his newly acquired role as closer pitched the 9th for his 1st save on the year.  The Mets finish their first road series of 2015 at 3-3. Next up Monday afternoon at 1:10 pm EST at Citi Field it’s the Mets home opener against Philadelphia.  Jacob DeGrom (0-1 3.00) goes for the Mets, former Met Aaron Harang (1-0 0.00) goes for the Phillies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Familia is best reliever on this team, and arguably top 3-5 in the MLB.
Oh and maybe its time metstwitter and others accept that Colon is an asset to this team. We can assume Harvey would have been Harvey but fact is that Colon came out on road twice and Mets won both.

Colon has been a good signing. It wouldn't surprise me if they brought him back at reduced price next season too. He's been a good fit with the team. It seems like he's been a mentor of sorts to the young staff.

Colin so far has been the only big money player on this team that has earned his salary. David hasn't come close to a
20 million a year player and Grandy is far too streaky.

All the arbitration players are basically earning their cash exept for Duda whose a bargain. Colon has been as advertised and will likely be dealt at the deadline, unless Niese has a shit first half. I think Colon will be their best trade chip in July.
