Per Jim Bowden of ESPN, The Mets and CF Juan Lagares have agreed to a 4 year contract extension worth $23M. The extension also includes a 5th year club option valued at $9.5M or a $500k buyout. The extension is on top of his already agreed upon salary for 2015. Coming into the 2015 season, Lagares has accrued 1 year and 160 days of service time which means he was likely to be a Super 2 arbitration eligible candidate.
In essence, the club is buying out all 4 years are arbitration eligibility + have the option for his 1st free agent year. Lagares' salary breakdown is below.
2015: $508k
2016: $2.5M
2017: $4.5M
2018: $6.5M
2019: $9.0M + $500k [2020 season buyout] (if exercised)
2020: $9.5M option

Lagares deals similar to White Sox deal with Adam Eaton. Player says Lagares is excited and pushed hard for his reps to get deal done

(Chris Soto: APRILS FOOLS!!! Oh wait.... the team is actually spending money?? Holy smokes...I love this deal for both sides. Cost control + cost certainty is worth absolute gold for a team that is on the rise and has a large number of young players who are not yet arbitration eligible. Once the Mets traded den Dekker away, there really isn't anyone else who can challenge Lagares at the position. I look forward to seeing Conforto and Nimmo flanking Lagares in the future.)

Great news. $$ for Juan ahead of schedule, while the Mets lock up a possibly great player for cheap.
Not bad for a guy a lot of bloggers going into 2013 did not want kept on the Mets' 40 man roster.
Great deal for the Mets. If I were playing a pickup game and choosing sides Lagares would be the first position player on the Mets I'd pick for my team. I'd pick Harvey then Lagares.
The moves over the past few days are entirely encouraging--practive and affirmative---this move is forward looking... what a Great Change for The Mets
