May 14th 2015 -- Cubs 6, Mets 5

Thursday afternoon at Wrigley field the Mets wasted a pair of Anthony Recker home runs and a 5-1 lead. The Cubs complete a 4 game sweep of the Mets with a 6-5 win. Offense has been scarce for the Mets this series. In the top of the 2nd the Mets took a 1-0 on Recker’s first solo blast his 1st on the year.  In the 4th Wilmer Flores and Recker went back to back and it was 3-0 Mets. For Flores his team leading 5th homer on the year.  Niese was rolling along, the first hit he gave up came in the 4th and that was an opposite field homer by Dexter Fowler and it was 3-1.  In the 5th Dilson Herrera reached on an infield single, Lucas Duda doubled. Then with 1 out and 2nd and 3rd John Mayberry Jr. broke at 0-21 streak with a 2 run single up the middle to make it 5-1.  Before Mayberry’s hit the Mets were 1-17 with runners in scoring position for the series.  In the 5th inning the Cubs came back scoring 4 times to tie it up.  Jorge Soler singled and then scored on an RBI double by Matt Szczur. Szczur scored on a throwing error by Flores and it was 5-3. Anthony Rizzo singled home Addison Russell to make it 5-4.  Kris Bryant then plunked a single to right scoring Fowler and the game was tied at 5.  Niese gave way to Hansel Robles in the 7th.  With 2nd and 3rd with 2 out, a passed ball by Recker allowed Fowler to score the go head run and it was 6-5. Niese gets the loss falling to 3-3. Pedro Strop gets the win he's 1-2. Hector Rondon pitched the 9th for his 7th save.  The Cubbies 4 game sweep of the Mets is their first 4 games sweep at Wrigley since 1992. With the loss, the Mets fall to 20-15 on the year. They are 2-5 on this road trip and 7-12 on the road overall. Friday night the Mets limp home to the friendly confines of Citi Field to face the Brewers.   Bartolo Colon (6-1 3.30) looks to stop the bleeding for the Mets. Kyle Lohse (2-4 7.03) goes for the Brewers.

Awful and disheartening.

7.03 ERA for Lohse, huh?
That will be lowered tomorrow night.

This team has forgotten how to play the game. Where is Kevin Long's magic now? When do we get an actual shortstop? I'm about to start screaming "BRING ME THE HEAD OF TERRY COLLINS!" Not because ne is making them play so bad, but because he's too friendly with the players. He doesn't have it in him to go into the clubhouse, lock the door, and start breaking the furniture and screaming at the players for playing so stupid! We need someone who can light a fire under these player's butts! There's no motivation going on - its just "It's OK boys, you'll play better tomorrow". NO THEY WON'T! Not unless they understand if they keep playing this badly, they won't BE major leaguers for long. This isn't rebuilding any more, where we put up with crappy play because we're rebuilding and we are just putting placeholders on the field until the new playersare ready for the bigs. THESE ARE THE NEW PLAYERS! If they can't do the job, send 'em sown and bring up the next batch. I know Wright and D'Arnaud are on the DL. Granderson has traded his power bat for the light bat of a leadoff hitter, Duda isn't a power hitter any more, he's a lawn sprinkler. Time for the hitting coach to go to work, and time for somebody to put some fire in these guys bellies!

If I was Collins and the other coaches, I would keep Flores on the bench for 3 days, and during batting practice, and drill, let him catch and throw for 6 hours a day. When he's ready to come back and play, let us know, the coaches, the staff, the fan. Hold a team meeting to let the players know, that he's got their backs. If after a week, he's regressing, let him know, he will go to AAA, and Reynolds will be called in to replace him.

Can't hate on Duda hes the best hitter on this team
Not his fault that literally nobody on this 25 man roster can consistently follow up his single/double with another single/double in the lineup.
Raise ur hand if u think ANY opposing pitcher in the mlb is afraid to see cuddyer at the plate following a Duda hit?.

Once Lagares, Wright and d'Arnaud and the half dozen relievers on the DL come back, this team players better.

But, if you want to give the current Mets a better chance at a win:

1.) Play Lucas Duda every day, without exception.
2.) Play Ruben Tejada at shortstop every day, without exception.
3.) Find better options off the bench. Ceciliani comes to mind.
4.) Pray that Sandy Alderson finds a two-way shortstop soon.

What is anybody expecting from Flores?
He gives us exactly what we thought. Weak defense solid bat.
His avg. is pretty bad at the moment but his 5HR are tied for 2nd of all Shortstops.
His defense allready lost us a few games thats right bus he isnt the worst defender out there. He hasnt either the most errors nor the lowest dwar.

So in my eyes he is doing ok. Do I want an upgrade at SS? Sure! But who should Sandy aquire?
Just look at all these Shortstop stat right now. In my opinion there is nobody except Tulo, Peralta, Castro and Simmons whoa are the investment of all these prospects and dollar worth.

Continue with Flores! Cuddyer and Grandy has to step up! By the way move Grandy to the 2nd or 5th spot in the lineup
