May 5th 2015 -- Mets 3, Orioles 2

Tuesday night in Flushing, Bartolo Colon pitched 7 2/3 terrific innings striking out a season high 9. The Mets beat the Orioles 3-2.

The Mets snapped a streak of 21 innings without scoring a run in the 4th inning scoring three times off Baltimore starter Bud Norris.  Lucas Duda doubled to deep center.  Daniel Murphy then singled in Duda for a 1-0 lead. Wilmer Flores then hit a line double off the foul line down the left field line and it was 2nd and 3rd for Kevin Plawecki who then doubled himself bringing them both home for a 3-0 Met lead.

With one out in the top of the 8th Manny Machado finally got to Colon stroking a long home run to left field, for Machado his 5th on the year.

Colon allowed just 6 hits the 1 run (earned) notching the win improving to 5-1 on the year. Colon also lowered his ERA to 2.90. For Bartolo it was his 5 straight start without yielding a walk. The last Met pitcher to achieve that was Brett Saberhagen. Bud Norris takes the loss allowing 3 runs in his 7 innings pitched. He falls to 1-3.

Carlos Torres retired the last batter of the 8th inning. Jeurys Familia came on and pitched the 9th, but not without trouble. Chris Davis led off the top of the 9th with a solo homer, his 6th to bring the Orioles within 1 run. Familia went on to retire the side and notch his 11th save on the year. With the win the Mets improve to 17-10 on the year and they improve to 12-3 at Citi Field.  Wednesday night the Mets end this 2 game set and the homestead.  Jacob deGrom (2-3 3.34) goes for the sweep for the Mets. Mets have the pitching to win a lotta 3-2 games......... hopefully Wright can come back (stay healthy!!!!) And help figure out the 3 run part that seems so hard for them at times.
