Mets Minor League Games - 5-22-15

FOUR OF FIVE...TAKE THAT ANY NIGHT.

Minor League Player of The Night - most of the pitchers, who pitched well to win 4 of 5 well pitched contests.

Honorable Mention -see above. Offense was light in every game last night yet 4 of 5 were won. We'll give it to J Rod for 3 hits in the 2nd game of a tidy sweep by Savannah.

AAA - Las Vegas - (27-15) 3 - OKC (27-13) 6

    RHSP Tyler Pill - 6 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 HR, 1 BB, 2 K, 6.21

3 hitless innings of relief from Verrett, Velasquez and Bradford kept it close but Las Vegas stopped hitting mid- game and stopped scoring after the 3rd.  The bulk of the slight LV offense came from Castellanos (HR, 2 BB), Rivera (2 hits and a walk), Pill (1-2, RBI) and Taijeron ( hit and walk).

Everyone else stayed home. Pill's 2 bombs allowed (one by Heiser, who also hit one off Matz the previpus night to give him 10 for the year) were too much for LV against a tough opponent.

AA - Binghamton (23-18) 3  -  Akron (18-23) 2

    RHSP Michael Fulmer -  5.1-IP, 5-H, 2-R, 4-K, 3-BB, 2.95

    RHRP Paul Sewald -  1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 2-K, 0-BB, 7-SV, 1.66

    DH Jayce Boyd  -  2-4, 2-R, 1-HR (1), 1-RBI, .314

Boyd continues his hot hitting with his first homer to go with his 15 doubles for the season; 17 hits in his last 10 games.  I'm smelling mid-year promo to AAA for the Boyd Man.

Another Sewald relief gem to save a tight one. Solid start for Fulmer.

A+ - St. Lucie (19-23) 3  -  Dunedin (19-23) 1

    RHSP Rob Whalen -   5.2-IP, 2-H, 1-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 2.38

    SS Amed Rosario -  2-3, 1-R, .268

    RP Bobby Parnell - 1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 1-K, 1-BB, 1-H, 10.80

Whelan keeps putting up quality starts without a lot of Ks, and 4 pitchers combine for a 3 hitter.

Conforto's 10th double to go with 7 homers.

A - South Atlantic League Twin Bill:

    Game 1 - Savannah (18-22) 4 - Rome (17-23) 2

        RHSP Josh Prevost -  7.0-IP, CG, 5-H, 4-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 4.20

        SS Luis Guillorme -  2-3, 1-R, 1-RBI, .319

        RF John Mora -  1-3, triple, 2-RBI, .252

Luis G continues to rifle out singles.

    Game 2 - Savannah (19-22) 5  -  Rome (17-24) 2

    RHSP Ricky Knapp -  4.1-IP, 3-H,  1-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 1.80

    LHRP David Roseboom  -  1.2-IP, 3-H, 0-R, 1-K, 1-BB, 1.64

    SS Jean Rodriguez -  3-4, 2-R, 1-RBI, .276

With the sweep, the Gnats are finally not owner of the worst Mets team record.  St Lucie now has that honor.

GOAT: TYLER PILL, FOR ALLOWING 2 MORE HOMERS - 8 IN 42 IP THIS YEAR.

Jayce Boyd has extended AA stats, spanning July 2014 to present, that are compelling.

315 at bats, .336, 26 doubles, 2 triples, 6 homers, 51 RBI, 36 walks, and only 38 Ks. My guess is his floor is Soup Campbell, ceiling is Magadan with a little more pop. Maybe more than a little more pop.
