2015 Draft - Round 11 (329th Pick Overall) - LHP Jake Simon - Galveston Ball H.S. (TX) - UPDATED 6-12

Jake Simon was at the gym lifting weights, trying his best to keep his mind off the Major League Baseball’s amateur draft.
Austin Orewiler was delivering pizzas, though not exactly for the same reason. He was helping out his high school coach.
“Well my mom thought it started at noon,” Orewiler said of the draft’s third day, which began at 11 a.m. Wedneday “So she sent me to pick up pizzas at 11:30 a.m.”
But soon enough, the two former Galveston Ball pitchers received the news they’ve been waiting for since childhood.
“I got the call about 11:35 a.m. while I was taking the pizzas to coach (Russell) Ferrell,” said Orewiler, a right-handed pitcher at Rice who the Reds picked in the 14th round.
“My phone rang and (the voice) told me, ‘Congratulations.’ So I said, ‘What happened?’” said Simon, a lefty who graduated from Ball on Saturday and went to the Mets in the 11th round.
Simon was the Houston area’s first pick from the draft’s third day, which included rounds 11-40. In all, 36 players with local ties were selected, includes two sons of former Astros greats (Conor Biggio and Kody Clemens) and the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year (Luken Baker).

Jacob Simon is the third Galveston Ball High School standout to join the squad in the last two years (along with current Owls Austin and Nick Orewiler). The 6-foot-2, 175-pound, Simon is the lone left-handed pitcher in the signing class. He earned first team all-county after finishing his junior season with 1.86 ERA. The southpaw is a three-year baseball letterman who participated in the 2014 Texas Scouts Association All-Star Game. When not playing summer league baseball for Kyle Chapman, Simon is also an all-district quarterback for the Tors' football team who led 23-5A in passing yards.

Mets really going hot and heavy for the lefties this year. An obvious weakness in the farm system right now.
