One game delivered from their most exciting game of the year, the Mets offense falls back into its slumber. The Cubs come to town Tuesday night and beat the Mets 1-0.  The Mets only managed 3 hits on the night. Daniel Murphy returned from the DL and accounted for one of them a double in the 4th. The only other Mets hits were a single by Lucas Duda in the 1st and a single by Kevin Plawecki in the 2nd. Jonathon Niese pitched very well but the one run he allowed beat him. In the top of the 6th Kris Bryant walked. Bryant reached 2nd on a comebacker that Niese had a shot to get Bryant at second but elected to go to first. That came back to haunt Niese as Mike Szczur double bringing home Bryant with the game’s only run.  Niese went 7 allowed just 4 hits 1 run (earned) walking 4 and striking out 5. He takes the loss falling to 3-8 and has now not won a game since May 9th.  Kyle Hendricks pitched 6 scoreless allowing the 3 hits and gets the win he’s now 3-4. Jason Mott picked up his 3rd save for the Cubs. Michael Cuddyer left the game in the 6th inning with a sore left knee.  With the loss the Mets 4 game winning streak comes to an end. The Cubs 5 game losing streak ends. The Mets now stand at 40-38 on the year and 29-12 at Citi Field.  The Nationals are beating the Braves, with a win the Mets will fall 3 ½ behind in 2nd place in the NL East.  Wednesday it’s game two of the set. Bartolo Colon (9-6  4.89) goes for the Mets, Jon Lester (4-6 4.03) goes for the Cubs.
