Mets Minor League Games - 6-23-15

Two losses by 1 run in DSL games today.  Thankfully , 4 of the 6 teams that play above them won yesterday, taking away the sting of those 2 DSL setbacks.

Minor League Player of The Night - John Gant

Honorable Mention - Dominic Smith, Brock Peterson, Jeff McNeil, Champ Stuart, and the Vegas and B Mets pens, which combined for 9 shutout innings with just 2 hits, 2 walks, and 10 Ks in two 1 run nailbiters.

AAA - Las Vegas - (41-31) 4 -Salt Lake (28-44) 3, 10 innings.

    LHSP Steven Matz - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 2.19

LHRP Duane Below - back after 3+ weeks on DL.

Not Matz's best outing, but still impressive.

Matt Reynolds walked and scored on an Alex Castellanos single and an error in the top of the 10th for the margin of victory.

RECKER SPOTLIGHT: With 2 outs, after the run had scored, the Bees intentionally walked a Vegas batter to pitch to Anthony Recker, who showed the benefit of increased playing time in AAA by striking out 4 straight times. Recker popped out to end the inning, breathing a sigh of relief.

Great bullpen work led to the win.  Vic Black tossed an inning and fanned 2.  Before him, Duane Below returned from a 3 week DL stint with 2 perfect innings and 3 Ks, and shares the same 2.19 ERA as Steve Matz.

Zach Thornton retired the last 2 in the 9th for the win, and Chase Bradford notched his 7th save.

Tovar, Rivera, and Taijeron each had 2 of Vegas' 8 hits.

Vegas is the ultimate streak team so far: 14 game win streak, 10 game losing streak and now in the midst of a streak of 10 wins in their last 12 games.  A certain team in Flushing could use such a streak themselves.

AA - Binghamton (37-32) 6  - Harrisburg (30-41) 5

    RHSP Luis Cessa -   5.0-IP, 11-H, 5-R, 6-K, 2-BB, 2.93

    1B Brock Peterson  -  2-4, 1-R, 1-HR (3), 3-RBI, .379

    CF Brandon Nimmo  -  2-4, .319

Peterson with 22 RBIs in 15 B Met starts.  Not Cessa's night.

Saving the day was great relief from Kolarek, Morris, Sewald (Sv 13), and Beck Wheeler, who moves to 4-1.

A+ - St. Lucie (35-34) 9  -  Jupiter (34-35) 0

    RHSP John Gant - 7.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 5-K, 2.BB, 2.23

    C Jeff Glenn -  2-4, 3-R, double, 1-RBI, .250

    1B Dominic Smith  -  2-5, double, 3-RBI, .304

Gant was the star of St Lucie's night.  Great start.

Smith co-starred with his 22nd double and 3 RBIs, giving him 40 in just the past 7 weeks.

Champ Stuart knocked in 3 and had 2 hits, and Rockin' Jeff McNeil had a walk, single, double, 2 RBIs, and his 11th steal, while climbing back to .331. I'm sure McNeil said it was all in a night's work.

A - Savannah -  no game scheduled (all-star break)

Low-A  -  Brooklyn - (3-2) 4 - Tri Cities (3-2) 11

    LHSP Kevin Canelon  -  2.1-IP, 6-H, 6-R, 1-K, 3-BB, 19.29

Bad pitching by Cyclones pitchers tonite. Can't mince words.

14th rounder Vinny Sienna comes out hitting in 2015...2 for 3, walk, .412 in the early going.  Michael Bernal off to a great start (.368, 2 homers, 8 RBIs in 5 games).

Rookie -  Kingsport - (1-0) 4 - Johnson City (0-1) 3, 10 innings

    RHSP Harol Gonzalez -   6.2-IP, 8-H, 3-R, 2-K, 0-BB, 4.05

RHRP Nabil Crismatt tremendous: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 5K. The 20 year old prior to this year was 9-3. 2.39, and is one to watch.

Catcher Dionis Rodriguez doubled to open the 10th, got sac bunted to 3rd, and crossed the plate with the winning run.

Dash Winningham garners 2 RBIs.  It's good to see Dash smash.

Rookie -  GCL Marlins (2-0) 7  -  GCL Mets (0-2) 5

    RHSP Joel Huertas -  3.1-IP, 4-H, 5-R, 3-K, 4-BB, 10.80

    RHRP Jenrry Mejia  -  1.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 0.00

    1B Victor Moscote  -  3-5, 1-R, 1-RBI, .444

Mejia encourages Met fans with his fine rehab appearance.

Rookie -   DSL Yankees-1 (16-5) 8  - DSL Mets-1 (10-11) 7

    RHSP Ramon Laguerre  -  5.0-IP, 6-H, 2-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 4.13

    CF Anthony Diroce  -  3-4, 1-R, 2-doubles, 4-RBI, .221

    RF Wagner Lagrange  -  3-5, 1-R, 2-RBI, .357

    RHSP Luis De Los Santos  -  5.0-IP, 3-H, 0-R, 5-K, 0-BB, 1.38

    CF Ysidro Pierre  -  2-5, 1-R, .211

    2B Angel Manzanarez  -  2-4, 1-R, 1-RBI, .333

Recker is 3 for 18 with 10 Ks so far. So AAA pitching must be elite also.

Of course, 2 of his 3 hits are homers.
