St. Lucie 4 - Jupiter 3

Ricky Knapp held Jupiter scoreless for 5.1 innings on Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium as the St. Lucie Mets edged the Hammerheads 4-3.

Knapp took over for the rehabbing Josh Edgin with two outs in the first inning. He struck out K.J. Woods to strand a runner on third. Knapp scattered four singles over the next five innings and struck out four to earn the win.

With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth, the Mets hit four consecutive singles against Jorgan Cavanerio to take a 2-1 lead. John Mora's RBI double in the fifth made it 3-1. Kevin Taylor then drove in Mora with a two-out single to make it 4-1.

The Mets held that three-run lead until Taylor Ard launched a two-run homer with no outs in the ninth. Robby Coles settled down and got three straight fly outs to Champ Stuart in center to end the game. Coles was credited with his first save.

Taylor went 3 for 4 in his Florida State League debut. Eight of the nine hitters in the St. Lucie lineup registered a hit.

Rehab Update: Lefty reliever Josh Edgin started for the Mets and gave up a walk and single to the first two batters. He then struck out Brian Anderson and allowed a sac fly to Ard before being lifted for Knapp. Edgin threw 27 pitches (15 strikes). Edgin is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery. He underwent the procedure on March 17, 2015.

Notes: The Mets are 3-1 through the first four games for the second straight season…since Knapp was considered a reliever, the Mets bullpen ran its shutout streak to 13.2 innings before Coles surrendered the home run…Mora has a RBI hit in all four games…backup catcher Lednier Ricardo went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs in his first game…the middle infield combo of SS Amed Rosario and 2B Luis Guillorme turned a double play in all four games of the series…Mets pitchers struck out 39 batters in the four games.

Next Up: The Mets (3-1, T-1st) start a four-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays (2-2) at Tradition Field on Monday. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. It's the only time Dunedin will visit St. Lucie in the regular season.
