This guy actually had a kind of rough MLB debut for San Diego in 2014 - then missed 2015 and 2016 (wonder why, let me call Tommy John and ask him) - maybe the Pods hoped to sneak him thru Rule 5 assuming his roughly half season in 2017 was not enough for people to think he'd help in 2018 - very interesting pick.

And now the Mets have traded him.

Did we lose anyone in the major-league portion of the draft?

Sandy Alderson goofed yet again. The Orioles saw quality and grabbed it:

If he's that good, why didn't the Yankees protect him?

Why didn't wet protect Uceta?

There's a difference...they have a LOT of well regarded prospects and can't protect them all. Instead we do protect Reynolds, Cecchini, McGowan and others who could have been protected and not risk losing them.

Fortunately they dodged a bullet.

Of course, with a vacancy on the 40-man Alderson could have chosen someone but apparently even the $100K fee is too rich for his blood. What a joke!

With Sandy, there is Rule 1: don't spend money.

More accurately, Rule Number One -- "Don't reduce the profit margin". When in doubt, see Rule Number One. If you need clarification call us on our satellite phone on our private jet and we will explain it to you. Sincerely, the Wilpons.

Marginal players are the result of overly focusing on profit margins.
