PG Grade: 8.5 - Tommy Wilson is a
2014 RHP with a 6-3 215 lb. frame from Encino, CA who attends Notre Dame. XL
frame, tall athletic build with wide shoulders and hips, good present strength
with some remaining projection. Pitches from a three quarter arm slot with a
long two-piece arm action. Long take back, good present arm strength, fastball
tails to the arm side with sinking action when he stays on top of the baseball.
Sat comfortably and consistently in the 84-87 mph range and can get a little
more out of his delivery with more direct online mechanics, good tools, clears
front side a touch early. Good depth on 12-6 curveball, hint of bite and has a
chance to develop into an out pitch as he increases the spin rate on it,
changeup features good fading life to keep hitters off balance. Very good
student.

Tommy
Wilson was a standout pitcher at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High, posting an ERA
of 1.06 with 76 strikeouts in 59-1/3 innings his senior season. But he used his
freshman year at St. Mary’s College as a redshirt season, before transferring
to L.A. Pierce College.
One could say St. Mary’s loss was a big gain for Cal State
Fullerton, which recruited Wilson out of Pierce following a 2017 season there
that saw him go 6-4 with an ERA of 2.11 and 104 strikeouts in just 85 innings.
All Wilson has done for the Titans in his junior season is go
6-0 with an ERA of 2.83. He has 78 strikeouts in 82-2/3 innings while making 12
starts, 19 appearances overall.
Although he began the season in the bullpen, Wilson has been
the Saturday starter for months now, and he has excelled.
“He’s had a good season,” Titans coach Rick Vanderhook said
of Wilson, who will start Game 2 of Cal State Fullerton’s best-of-3 Super
Regional series with Washington on Saturday at Goodwin Field. Game 1 is Friday
at 11 a.m., with Saturday’s slated for 3:30 p.m. “I mean, if you haven’t lost,
it’s always good.
“But he commands the fastball pretty good and he pitches off
of it. And that’s good for us.”

Will be interesting to see what enhanced mechanics can do to Tommy's fastball velocity.
