The Cubs and Joe Maddon just parted company...

Thoughts?

Well, Terry had 5 losing sesons and 2 winning seasons. Mickey has one and one. Maddon is a way better manager from all counts but he was also one of the most expensive managers in the game. Mickey is under contract for one more year and is oweed that money whether he manages or not. BVW did not select Mickey and if you toss the one media blowup out, has only embarrassed himself on the field. The Wilpons being the Wilpons are likely going to let him play out the string based upon the second half that no one saw coming. That would cost them the least amount of money. Hiring Maddon would be expensive and would cost them Mickey's third year salary. I can't see it happening when there's so little money available for player salaries as I outlined recently. Nothing to see here...

I am a huge fan of Maddon, per my article last week.

I think it’s a no brainer, but will the Wilpons open the wallet? It doesnt count towards
the tax threshold......plus if they win, they will draw enough fans to pay the contract and then some.

DO IT!

After the game today, Sunday, Mickey will be back.

A manager, like a player, impacts Ws and Ls.

Would another manager this year have also finished 3 games out of the Wild Card? Or won the Wild Card?

That is what they have to figure out.

I just say one thing: remember the use of one Walker Lockett.

Tom,

I thought of you when Walker was brought in the game last night and gave up two home runs. I guess Mickey was trying to allow him to redeem himself in the final game.

I've seen enough of Mickey Callaway. I'd rather have Maddon or Clint Hurdle than him. How the hell could he send Tomas "NO HIT" Nido up twice in extra innings with 2 catchers rotting on the bench that are 10 times the hitter he is?

Walker Lockett? Bashlor is even worse than him...don't ask me how he got away unscathed. The Mets have a dozen shi**y relievers at AAA, none of which look to be a major leaguer.

The Genius almost singlehandedly lost the 2016 World Series for the Cubs with his horrific bullpen mismanagement. To me, it was one of the worst post-season managing jobs I've seen in 50+ years of watching baseball. But, he got them there and they DID hang on to win, so he's still The Genius. Considering what the Mets' Achilles heel is, I'd be scared, very scared. Clint Hurdle utterly lost his team during the second half of the season. You'd prefer that to what Callaway did?
