Good observation. Alderson's mention of potential interest in Japanese players was unsolicited, if I recall correctly. Sugano could be an intriguing starting-pitcher option. https://t.co/wFju3aCiPW

Amazing

rotation help, even if Noah Syndergaard remains on an optimistic recovery
timeline.
Sandy Alderson said on @WFAN660 that a "reasonable expectation" for Noah Syndergaard's return is June. He added that Syndergaard's medical reports support that as most likely.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) December 16, 2020
June would be 15 months post-surgery, which falls right into line with the rough average for starters.

expand, probably play a little bit of third base I think is something that will
definitely help him and he’ll help the team with.”

contusion caused by a line drive off the bat of Alex Gordon and a nagging

David Rodriguez impressive with bat this winter at .403. Bruce Maxwell .104? Really?
Rosario to me is so disappointing. The SNY panel was not impressed, thought he was now a utility player. But why the heck won't he play the outfield, if Dom Smith did? Is that wisdom? Recker felt he came up too soon and his growth was stunted. 2000 minor league plate appearances is rushed? And James McCann learned on the big league level - if Amed is not growing, it is his fault. Nearly 3500 pro plate appearances. Come on. Maybe he has issues that will prevent him from ever being better than average/mediocre.
Not sure why he is not playing the outfield but after seeing Keith Miller and Juan Samuel fail miserably out there I trust the Mets know what they are doing.
Mets will be letting some catchers go in the Spring. They have 4 currently on the MLB roster - McCann, Nido, Sanchez, and Mazeika, 1 at AAA - Rodriquez - and 6 including Maxwell at AA. Most likely Sanchez and Mazeika will join Rodriquez at AAA which will leave the current 6 at AA and I don't think they will carry all 6. If Maxwell is not working on a new swing which accounts for the low average, he will need to pick it up. At least he is he everyday catcher on a team with Gary Sanchez who has been the primary DH. Yankees probably want him to not get the wear and tear behind the plate this winter.
One name I haven't read about all Winter is Tomas Nido, who actually had a pretty good 2020 (and I think is out of options).
He's very good behind the plate, and the special tutoring he got last year re:hitting seemed to pay off.
Will he get more "tutoring" between now and ST? Will he be the backup to McCann? Will he be traded? Released?
He's apparently not playing Winter ball. What does the future hold for him? Lots of questions, few answers.
Bill, Tomas Nido is on the Roster for one of the Puerto Rican teams. We will let you know id he appears in a game. I like Nido a lot and think he could play as mant as 50-60 games next year to keep McCann at top form all year.
