A switch-hitting dynamo with good actions on the dirt and a big arm, Arroyo is an enticing profile. He's shown fringe-average pop from both sides of the plate and a hit tool that works from both sides as well. The hustle and effort on the field is undeniable. Arroyo doesn't have any super loud tools, but the whole package is there and likely has the floor of a talented utility man at the next level.
PG -
Edwin Arroyo is a 2021 SS/LHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Arecibo, PR who attends Arecibo Baseball Academy. Lean athletic middle infielder's build with some present strength and room for more. 6.53 runner in the sixty, very smooth and graceful actions in the middle infield, stays balanced and works behind the ball, can play on the run, huge raw arm strength when he can load up on his throws. Switch-hitter, hits from an open stance from both sides with a similar gliding leg lift load, right handed swing is quick and direct with hard line drive contact, bit more of an uphill approach with a lower hand start from the left side. Raw tools have taken a nice step forward and may even improve more as he gets stronger
Edwin Arroyo – SS: The #1 player out of Puerto Rico. And talk about an athlete… Arroyo has the most unique skillset and overall profile in the entire class. A switch hitter, switch thrower, that plays a premium position (SS) at a high level, I grade him as a Future (60) Plus Defender at the position, a Plus Runner, not to mention the plus Arm(s), he can touch up to 90 with each from the mound… He shows fantastic barrel control from both sides of the plate with Potential Above-Average Power (50+) Oh yeah… Edwin is one of the youngest players in the entire class to top it all off. Just 17.8 years old during the 2021 July Draft Month.
Edwin Arroyo - Arecibo Baseball Academy’s Edwin Arroyo is a name that the casual prep fan might be aware of, but scouts have been keeping a keen eye on this summer. A switch-hitter, Arroyo has sneaky pop from both sides of the plate and plays some exciting middle infield defense. The arm is undeniable too. He struck out in his first plate appearance of the night, but that was really the only wart on an otherwise outstanding night. His second at-bat resulted in a double absolutely smoked up the middle into the centerfield. The speed was on full display as he stretched what generally would be a single into an impressive extra-base hit. The third at-bat was even more noteworthy, going the other way with a fastball low and away into left field for a picturesque base hit. Arroyo was one of the standouts for the event.
Edwin Arroyo, 3B - The star of the Perfect Game All American Classic came to Boston and despite not being as loud with the bat, showed the basic tool set that has scouts excited. Arroyo projects as a bat first likely third baseman, and one with the ability to hit for both average and power.
