Mets Trades?.. err... nah

The guys over at Mets Merized put up a story saying they felt the Mets will make a major trade before the season starts.

They said that even though Omar Minaya publically said to 8,585,567 reporters that this won't happen.

It's important to understand the difference between a blogger speculating on something THEY think will or should happen, and information from a source within baseball, that shares confidential information with a reporter/blogger on what really is going on.

Sometimes, one of your sources allows you to report that information without revealing his or her name.

The story on the other blog is just the writer's opinion, and the people over there do a bang up job, but, I'm one of those guys that believe you should always identify whether or not you have some real information, in the headline. Otherwise, you're just trying to get people to click on your site.

So...

I called one of my sources.

No, not the same one who told me about the Oliver Perez deal.

This was someone with more first hand knowledge about what's going on in Queens.

And... what I'm being TOLD... not thinking out loud about... is that there will be no major trades...

however...

there still is a good chance there will be additional players coming to Tradition Field by the time the first spring training game is played...

especially since the current free agents' value, who are still out there, is less and less every day.... and will gladly sign for a one year deal, with a bunch of encentives if they make the big club...

who... my source has no idea...

how many... my source says at least one...

what positions... not the critera.

IT WILL BE ONE OR TWO..... BATS

Adam Dunn- he is heavy lumber and allows Murphy to get more seasoning at AAA. Althoug defensively he is an albatross. Plus, wont it be great to have a young core playing together to kick Buffalo off with a bang:

Fernando Martinez
Dan Murphy
Nick Evans
Jon Niese
Eddie Kunz
Robert Parnell

not to mention Freddy Garcia waiting in the wings? What is your opinion on Darren O'Day? I think he has a legit shot to stick.

I do believe the Mets will make another trade or signing.

I believe the article you cited presented itself as the writers speculation, and that the title was a question not a statement.

But anyway, to make my point, after Minaya said he was done, several sources including Joel Sherman and Jayson Stark said the Mets are still working frantically to move Castillo or Castro.

Also, all those sources were wrong when they said the Mets were out on Johan Santana, none of them called it.

Sometimes you can specualate and sometimes you can make an informed call based on a sources info. Both are okay. The trick is letting the reader know up front which one it is.

I believe the Mets will get Orlando Hudson, and Hudson believes it too.

Lets hope it happens.
