Daniel Murphy, Fernando Tatis, 2010 Season, Yusmeiro Patit... and Bobby V

Daniel Murphy:

Let’s not worry about how Ike Davis will fit in next year. If Murphy succeeds this season, the Mets have a great problem to solve next season. Several years ago the Brewers traded Lyle Overbay so that Prince Fielder could move into the lineup. In my opinion Murphy will be great in the clubhouse and can be a leader of this team. He has a future in New York with the Mets. It’s hard not to root for Daniel Murphy. He is a product of the farm system. Just maybe Daniel Murphy will prove to be a burgeoning star. And all the cynics will jump on the Murphy bandwagon. - link

Fernando Tatis:

Fernando Tatis - As I previously wrote, I am not sure why the Mets decided to bring Tatis back. There were better and younger options to back up Murphy in the free agent pool this year, namely the likes of Ryan Garko, whom the Mariners recently signed. I happen to respect the hell out of the Mariners and what they have done to better their team this off-season. However, I digress. Tatis will get his 150-200 at bats this season if he stays healthy. The positive is that he can play a myriad of positions. I can not take that away from him, although I struggle to find much else to compliment him on. - link

2010 Season:

The Mets have added or currently have players that have the potential to play up to that standard too. Barring any arising coaching issues or lack of focus from the players, there’s no reason not to expect them to do just that. I’m not ready to say the Murphy experience at first base will be greatly improved or the catching situation will be sufficient as far as the game calling or offense at the bottom of the order, but lets not ignore all the other significant strengths of this team. (And I hear that, Murph’s been working hard at the position) We know what to expect from the rest of the infield. Our outfield is one of the best (when Beltran is in) and one of the most entertaining (when Pagan is in). - link

Yusmeiro Petit

The Mariners have designated righty Yusmeiro Petit for assignment according to a team press release. The move opens up a roster spot for the newly re-signed Erik Bedard. The 25-year-old Petit was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks back in November, and owns a 5.57 career ERA with a 6.9 K/9 and a 2.9 BB/9 in 229.1 innings. His 1.96 HR/9 is the worst in baseball history among pitchers with at least as 200 innings to their credit. - link

-remember boys and girls… low level “prospects” mean nothing….

Bobby V:

I doubt the Mets' crowded front office would even have the guts to hire a guy like Bobby. Associated PressBobby Valentine took the New York Mets to the National League Championship Series in 1999 and the World Series in 2000.Bobby Valentine should Jerry Manuel get off to a slow start this year. Bob Klapisch at FoxSports.com points to Flushing as "the most obvious" next step for the Machiavellian skipper, a free agent who will begin 2010 in ESPN's studios waiting for the time to return to U.S. baseball. Manuel has "two months at best" to prove he can reverse the team's downward spiral, Klap reasons. He's right. -
