Dodgertown Revisited

Couldn’t help myself.

I had to stop by Dodgertown on the way to Lucy last week. One more time wouldn’t hurt, would it?

Vero Beach is now a sea of little blue signs. You see, all that’s left there are 103 year olds, driving in the inside lane, trying to make a right turn. So the town came up with these bright blue signs that they placed along the road telling everyone where you turn to go into a particular store.

Signs like “Sealed Sweet”, “Texaco”, “Plantation Plaza”, “Sam’s Club”, and “Wendy’s”.

It doesn’t matter that the actual store might be the length of a football field. No, if you’ve ever driven around really old people, you know they can’t see anything and when they do stare right or left looking for a location, they tend to drive into a reventment.

So, hence… the blue signs.

Anyway, I made my way to Aviation Boulevard and noticed that there are no “Dodgertown” traffic signs anymore. Just ones that say “stadium”.

The field was there. Locked. Cared for.

I stopped in one of the last restaurants left standing in the area and found out that there wil be some kind of baseball played there this summer, but not with the MLB.

Still, it’s good to see there will be life there.

As I said last year… yes Virginia, there is no more Dodgertown.
