Henry Blanco, Delgado Update, Jesus Feliciano, 3 reasons For a Great 2010... and Josh Thole

Henry Blanco:

By the way, did you notice the clause that if the Mets trade or release Blanco, they must pay him the full $700K roster bonus as long as it’s not because of a pre-existing shoulder injury… If you could have gotten Miguel Olivo for only $500 K more, don’t you think the Mets should have absolutely jumped at the opportunity? Olivo batted .249 (Blanco .235) with 23 home runs and 65 RBI’s last season and is seven years younger than Blanco and calls just as good a game. It seems like just another case of the Mets paying more for less.- link

Delgado Update:

The New York Post's Joel Sherman confirmed Friday that the Blue Jays no longer have interest in free agent Carlos Delgado. Delgado, who turns 38 this season, played only 26 games last year due to a hip issue. He batted .298/.393/.521 with four home runs and 23 RBI when healthy, but teams that have scouted his workouts in the Dominican this winter claim he is not moving well. The Jays will stick with Adam Lind at DH. -  link

Jesus Feliciano:

Puerto Rico (Mayaguez) 5, Mexico (Hermosillo) 3 - Mets center fielder Jesus Feliciano went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk and Blue Jays catcher Randy Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs to give Puerto Rico its first victory in the Caribbean Series.- link

Three Reasons For a Great 2010:

First, the injury bug has passed and we will be healthy in 2010 (though we are already off to a rough start on that front). Seasons like 2010 are like lightning strikes—they never happen twice in the same place. Sure, we may view the Beltran surgery as a dark omen the likes of which have not been seen since Shakespeare penned Julius Caesar . I choose to view the Beltran surgery as a positive—we will have the best all around CF in the game completely healthy from June on, thanks in large part to this surgery. Imagine if he hadn't undergone the procedure...we'd probably lose him in June and be kissing our season goodbye.- link

Josh Thole:

All Triple-A catcher Josh Thole does is hit. The 23-year-old  put an exclamation point on a breakout year, which included successful stops at Double-A (.328 BA) and the majors (.321 BA), by batting .381 with a league-leading .470 on-base percentage in 155 regular-season at-bats for Venezuela’s Leones del Caracas. If Omir Santos and Henry Blanco perform to expectations, the Flushing faithful will be clamoring for Thole.-
