Tonight: The first-place Gnats conclude their four-game series with the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Gnats are 3-4 on their eight-game road trip, which concludes tonight. The Gnats lead the Augusta GreenJackets by one game for first place in the SAL Southern Division.

Last Night: The Sand Gnats dropped a 12-11 decision in 15 innings despite holding leads of 5-1, 9-4, 10-8 in the first nine innings and 11-10 in the 13th. Jonathan Villar dropped a bloop into shallow left-center field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 15th to bring home the winning run for Lakewood. It was the second time in four games that Gnats reliever Michael Powers suffered a loss for giving up an unearned run in a tie game in extra-innings.

Now Pitching: Armando Rodriguez will make his seventh start for Savannah this evening. The Gnats are 3-3 when Rodriguez starts and have supported him with 5.8 runs per game, the second-best mark among Savannah starters behind Darin Gorski. Rodriguez held Delmarva to one hit in five innings in his last start, but walked three and gave up three unearned runs. Rodriguez pitched for both Kingsport and Savannah in 2009. With Kingsport a year ago, he was 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA with 36 strikeouts and 20 walks in 45.2 innings. Promoted to Savannah on August 27th, he finished the year with a dominant three-start performance in which he allowed just five hits in 16.2 innings and struck out 24. The Mets signed Rodriguez as a non-drafted free agent June 6, 2007.

Sunday Superlatives: Last night’s 15-inning 4:53 game, was the Gnats’ longest in terms of innings and time of the 2010 season. Also, the 12 runs and 19 hits allowed were both season highs for Gnats pitching. Juan Lagares, who was 5-for-7, became the first Gnat with a five-hit game this year, while Darin Ruf became the first Gnat opponent with four hits in a game. Both the Gnats and the BlueClaws used six pitchers, a new season-high for the Gnats and their opponents. Two different Savannah relievers, John Church and Brandon Sage set new personal season highs in innings pitched with three apiece.

Roster Update: Gnats’ catcher Michael Moras was promoted to AA Binghamton for the second time on Monday and LHP Chris Hilliard was assigned to Savannah from extended Spring Training
