Jacksonville 2, Binghamton 0
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL –Two runs in the top of the fourth inning were all the Jacksonville Suns needed to defeat the B-Mets 2-0 in a game shortened to five innings due to rain.
The Suns, Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, play their regular season contests as a member of the Southern League.
The B-Mets collected six hits over five innings and had at least one runner in scoring position in each frame, but failed to crack the scoreboard. Outfielder Pedro Zapata led the offense with a pair of singles. Zapata played 117 games with the St. Lucie Mets(High-A) last year.
Left-hander Garrett Olson and righty Gonzalez Germen saw time on the mound for the Double-A Mets. Olson,a Pittsburgh Pirates farmhand last year, signed as a minor league free agent during the offseason. Germen pitched for the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) in2011.
The B-Mets (2-4) head to Jupiter, Fla tomorrow to take on the Springfield Cardinals, the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
