March 29, 2012 –The New York Mets today announced that they have signed INFJOSH RODRIGUEZ to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez, 27, split the 2011 season between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cleveland Indians organizations.

He started the season with Pittsburgh and had one hit in 12 at-bats with the Pirates. Rodriguez was in 2012 spring training camp with the Pirates before being released on Tuesday.

He was then returned to the Indians in late April before being reacquired by the Pirates in June trade with Cleveland.

He spent the remainder of the 2011 season in the Pirates minor league system. Rodriguez spent the entire 2010 season with Triple-A Columbus and hit .293 (93-317) with 23 doubles, 12 home runs and 46RBI in 86 games.

Says to me the Valdespin in CF is serious. Very serious.

Hmmm what does this mean for Captain Kirk?

If Valdespin in CF is for real then he has to stay in AAA because Den Dekker is solid in CF.

Do i see a move to LF to replace Bay in the future. Most analysts predicted the Kirk would have to move to left anyway. Its people feel he's no better than a C level prospect because he falls under the dreaded "tweener" category

I think the category is bullshit anyways. Who says your LF has to be a power hitter. If the guy can hit .300 and only gives me 10-15 HRs and play good defense I want him.

Kirk will take over LF in Queens as soon as Jason Bay stops pulling a paycheck. You will probably see him in CF before the season is over; however, for now, the Mets are trying to find the right position for Valdespin.

"On paper", the Mets 2014 outfield is LF Captain, CF den Dekker, RF Duda, with Gilbert Gomez and Brandon Nimmo in the wings.

IMO... not good enough.
