Ernest Dove - My Disappointment at Marlins Park

avatar - miami marlins

At first glance, it seemed like it would be a great day.  No work to go to .  Beautiful weather. Comfortable weather control in a domed environment.  The lowly Marlins.  And Matt Harvey on the mound.  Oh, and did I mention the tickets to the game were free !!!
Started out good enough. The Mets, of course, did what they do.....not score.....But Matt Harvey came out firing, as usual. But then, the Mets continued to do absolutely nothing. (raise your hand if you just knew Ike Davis was gonna get up at bat with the bases loaded and fail?)
Either way, things went as planned for Harvey, until the 6th inning. And then......let the 'single's' begin. One after another, until a 3 spot was on the board.
At that point, I admit it. My buddy Scot, with me at the game, was already thinking the same thing as me......There goes the game.
And that's when it happened. My daughter, not even 7 months old yet, went right to sleep. Even she knew it was over.
Sure, it was apparently 'camp day' at the Park, which was filled with hundreds of children, out as part of their summer camp, screaming, yelling, and cheering 'let's go fish'......And yet, my daughter tuned it out. Again, she knew. Nothing to see here. Keep eyes closed. Wait till its over.
And then, as expected, the Mets continued to 'hang out' on the bases, walking into the duggout every inning, without first touching home plate.
From surfing through twitter universe, I was then informed by my buddy Scot that Matt Harvey has had 3 starts this year in which he could not complete at least 6 innings.

Wanna guess what team each 3 was against? Better yet, wanna guess what specific ballpark each short outing occurred in? Let the confusion begin.
My buddy noticed, even through the Mets road uniforms, that Harvey just seems to be sweating like a ........well, you get the point.
I had a theory of my own. Maybe Matt Harvey doesn't like pitching in a dome stadium. Due to various weather conditions, the Park has had the roof closed each and every one of these Harvey starts (i think). Maybe his magic faces some sort of kryptonight inside of this stinkin park....which, by the way, I agree with my buddy that it really doesn't even feel like baseball at Marlins park. Nobody is really watching the game. The un-natural lighting took away from the feel of your average ballpark. And there's plastic fish and fake water in the outfield.
It just kind of looked like the same old Mets ballclub. No clutch hitting. Ike being Ike. Another terrible opposing pitcher looking like an all-star.
I have no doubt that Matt Harvey will bounce back, with a vengeance. What I do fear is that the team around him will continue to shy away from hitting in his presence.
Anyway, just like a true Mets fan, my daughter did wake up in the 8th inning. Probably hoping upon hope that a rally was gonna come.......yeah, it didn't come. But she saw her first Mets game....LIVE.....Hopefully the first of many. Although a couple of wins in the future would be nice.
