The Cyclones scored a season high 12 runs en route to a 12-5 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters. The win gives the Cyclones the sweep over the Lake Monsters which comes at a much needed time in the midst of a playoff push. For the first time this season, the Cyclones hit four homeruns in a game with long balls coming from Jared King, L.J. Mazzilli, Alex Sanchez, and James Roche.

The Cyclones came out swinging and it showed early as they put up three runs in the top of the first inning. The rally started when Ismael Tijerina reached on a one out walk, which was followed by singles from Mazzilli and King to load the bases. Vermont starter Cristhian Perez struggled against this Cyclones lineup, and walked Roche to bring home Tijerina for the first run of the game. Alex Sanchez singled to centerfield to score Mazzilli, and with the bases still loaded Matt Oberste grounded out to second but was able to drive in King, giving Brooklyn a 3-0 lead.

Brooklyn went onto score two more runs in the top of the third inning which is when the power surge began.  King led the inning off with a blast to left field, and two batters later Sanchez hit a solo homerun over the left field wall also, giving the Cyclones a 5-2 lead. The homeruns were in response to a two run inning Vermont put together in the second to make it a one run game.

The Cyclones scored again in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by King, and then in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Roche. Both King and Roche had great days at the plate. King finished with a 3-for-5 effort and two RBI, while Roche was 2-for-4 with three RBI.  With the score 7-4, the Cyclones were not done scoring yet. After Tijerina hit an RBI single to make it 8-4, L.J. Mazzilli hit a 3-run homerun to left field to make it 11-4. In the top of the eighth inning, Roche continued the trend by hitting a solo shot to left field, giving Brooklyn a 12-4 lead.

Akeel Morris got the start for Brooklyn, who doesn’t usually need run support from his offense. However, Morris needed the runs this time only going 1.2 IP with four walks and two earned runs. Remarkably his ERA is still under one at 0.90. Eight of the nine Cyclones in the lineup recorded a hit, the only who didn’t was Juan Gamboa. Besides Roche and King, the other two Cyclones with multi-hit games were Mazzilli and Sanchez.
