METS SELECT OUTFIELDER MATT den DEKKER
RECALL CATCHER ANTHONY RECKER & LHP ROBERT CARSON
FLUSHING, N.Y., August 27, 2013 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has selected the contract of outfielder Matt den Dekker from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and recalled catcher Anthony Recker and lefthanded pitcher Robert Carson from Las Vegas (AAA). Den Dekker will wear #6, Recker will don #20 and Carson will wear #73. All three will be available for tonight’s game.
The Mets also placed righthanded pitcher Matt Harvey on the 15-Day Disabled List with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.
Den Dekker, 26, was hitting .296 (53-179) with 34 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples, six home runs and 38 RBI in 53 games for Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. The 6-1, 205-pounder suffered a broken right wrist during spring training.
Recker was with the team from the beginning on the season until he was optioned to Las Vegas (AAA) on August 20. Recker, 29, was hitting .193 (21-109) with five home runs and 16 RBI in 38 games with New York. He batted .400 (4-10) with one triple, one home run and four RBI in five games with the 51s.
Carson, 24, will join the team for the second time this year. The lefthander was with the Mets from April 21-June 10, posting an 8.50 ERA (17 earned runs/18.0 innings) in 13 appearances. Carson was 3-3 with 11 saves and a 4.15 ERA (20 earned runs/43.1 innings) in 42 games with Las Vegas.
