Dykstra, Walters Named Season-Ending All-Stars
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Mets are proud to announce that Allan Dykstra and Jeff Walters have been named to the Eastern League Season-Ending All-Star Team. Dykstra earned honors as the top first baseman in the league and Walters was named the top relief pitcher.
Dykstra, 26, earns his first season-ending All-Star nod after compiling a career year with the Binghamton Mets. Playing in the Southern Tier for his third season, the San Diego, California native has already posted career-highs with 20 home runs and 80 RBI. He leads the league with .436 on-base percentage and has collected 101 walks, the most any Eastern Leaguer has racked up since 2003.
Acquired by the Mets via trade with the San Diego Padres in March 2011, Dykstra represented the B-Mets at this season’s Eastern League All-Star Game.
Walters, 25, also earns his first season-ending All-Star award. In his first season at Double-A, the right-hander has already set a B-Mets single-season and career record with 37 saves. His single-season saves total ranks second in Eastern League history trailing only Bryce Stentz (43, 1998 New Britain Rock Cats).
Walters has compiled a 2.13 ERA over 52 appearances and a 9.49 K/9 IP ratio, the third-best among Eastern League relievers. Selected in the seventh round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Georgia, he also represented the B-Mets at the Eastern League All-Star Game in July.
Dykstra, Walters and the B-Mets (84-53) complete their four-game series against the Baysox on Thursday at 7:05 PM. RHP Erik Goeddel gets the nod against Major League rehabber RHP Jason Hammel. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF. Fans can also listen to live coverage of B-Mets baseball via the “Binghamton Mets Baseball Network” station using the TuneIn app on their mobile devices.
