May 2nd 2015 -- Nats 1, Mets 0

Saturday night in Flushing Jonathan Niese allowed 1 run in the top of the 2nd inning, but Gio Gonzalez and the Nats bullpen made it hold up. The Nats beat the Mets 1-0.

Niese danced through raindrops all night long.  Niese had runners on in all but 2 innings he pitched.  In the top of the 2nd Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa singled.  They were then sacrificed to 2nd and 3rd by Gonzalez. Michael Taylor then reached on an infield single driving in Desmond with the game’s only run.

The Mets had their best chance to score in the bottom of the first when Juan Lagares singled and tried to score on a double by Lucas Duda was thrown out at home. Niese went 7 solid innings allowing 9 hits the 1 run (earned) he walked 1 and struck out 5.  Gonzalez was even better going 7 allowing just 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 9.

Niese is the hard luck loser falling to 2-2; Gonzalez gets the win and improves to 2-2. Carlos Torres pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th in relief.  Drew Storen notched his 6th save for the Nats. The Mets only managed 6 hits on the night. They were led by the red hot Lagares with 2 more hits he’s now batting .313. With the loss the Mets fall to 16-9 on the season and are now 11-2 at Citi Field.  The Nats clinch a tie I the series with the win. The Mets look to pull even on Sunday afternoon. Dillon Gee (0-1 4.26) goes for the Mets, Doug Fister (1-1 3.28) goes for Washington.
