Chris Flexen Named SAL Player of the Week

The South Atlantic League office announced today that RHP Chris Flexen has been named Player of the Week for the week of August 17-23. Flexen is the fourth different Sand Gnat to be named POTW this season. 

Flexen, 21, earned POTW honors after throwing 8.0 shutout innings on Friday, August 21st. The Newark, CA native made just the one start this week but allowed only four hits and struckout ten against the Kannapolis Intimidators. Flexen has made three starts for the Gnats in 2015 and his fantastic start on Friday added to his scoreless inning streak, which now stands at 19.1 innings.

Outfielder John Mora received SAL POTW honors for the week of July 20-26. RHP Scarlyn Reyes won SAL POTW for the week of June 15-21, Reyes and Wuilmer Becerra also swept POTW honors for the week of June 1-7.

Hopefully Flexen is Fulmer's replacement as a top Met starting pitching prospect.

I believe Mack has been high on this kid for a bit - the pitching train continues, even with some cars moved to other tracks.

Losing Fulmer is going to bother me for a while but if Wheeler becomes what he was expected to be, it will lessen the impact.
