August 31st 2015 -- Mets 3, Phillies 1

Monday night at Citi Field, Bartolo Colon was brilliant and the Met power returned. The Mets beat the Phillies 3-1. It was a scoreless pitcher’s duel between Colon and Jerad Eickhoff for 4 1/2 innings.  In the bottom of the 5th the Mets broke through. Michael Conforto hit his 4th home run, an opposite field shot to make it 1-0.  With 2 out Colon singled to center, his career high 7th hit on the year. Curtis Granderson followed with a long 2 run homer into the Mets bullpen, his 23rd on the season and a 3-0 Met lead.  Colon was amazing going 8 innings allowing just 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 9.  He now has a 16 inning scoreless streak and he gets the win improving to 12-11 on the year. Eickhoff takes the loss he’s 1-2.  Jeurys Familia pitched out of trouble again in the 9th, allowing a run on a double play but hung on for his 36th save. The Mets only managed 4 hits on the night. Conforto lead the way going 2 for 2 with the homer. With the win the Mets improve to 73-58 and 44-23 at Citi Field. The Mets are also 13-1 against the Phillies in 2015. The Amazins now lead the Nats by 6 1/2 games in the NL East with the Cardinals win over the Nats. Tuesday night it’s game two of the series.  Jonathon Niese (8-9 3.95) goes for the Mets, Aaron Harang (5-14 4.79)

Conforto is legit. On pace for 28 HR and almost 100 RBI with a .290 BA and an OPS over .900. With him and d'Arnaud as 'support' this team is going to have a deep lineup.

I was critical of his defense. It looks like he worked hard to improve his game there also. A sub .900 fielding ave. last year in the minors. Solid so far in the majors. Have to give him credit for his hard work.

It's going to be a lot easier to build a long term successful team with both d'Arnaud and Conforto on this team.

Ideally for next year, a re-signed Cespedes and fully healthy team -

3. Cespedes
4. Duda
5. Wright
6. Conforto
7. d'Arnaud

WOW...no problems scoring runs

Definitely Mack, they'll help ease the transition to any other players brought up from the minors or brought in from the outside. They're getting pretty close to cornerstone/core status even if they don't become superstars.
