The New York
Mets manager search has been a marathon and it has reached the third round. The
reason why the Mets have taken their time during their search is, because the Mets
have less competition for candidates.
When they quickly hired Mickey Callaway
two years ago, they were concerned they would lose him to the Philadelphia
Phillies.
Callaway was recently hired to be the Los Angeles Angels
pitching coach. Carlos Beltran, Tim Bogar, Eduardo Perez and Derrick Shelton
are expected to return for a third interview. Former Yankee manager Joe
Girardi, was formally introduced Monday as the Phillies’ new manager.
He chose
the Phillies, because he felt that it is a great opportunity for him to win
there plus the organization has a strong desire to win. He received a
three-year contract with a club option for 2023.
In my opinion he would have been the best choice for the Mets
since he is a proven winner. He has shown that he can handle the pressure of
managing in New York. He has eleven years of experience as a manager.
I can’t
believe the Mets let him go to the rival Phillies. If the Phillies can improve
their starting pitching rotation, they can become a World Series contender.
The Mets are content about the fact that their final four
candidates do not have the managerial experience of a Girardi so, perhaps they
just want a candidate who does what he is told.
A manager with a winning record
of Girardi would want some say in matters which would mean less control for
team management. My guess is the Mets will make their decision by the end of
this week.
In other baseball news the Houston Astros lead the Washington
Nationals 3-2 in the World Series as the Series shifts back to Houston for game
six.
The Astros outscored the Nationals in the last three games 19-3. Their
pitching shutdown the Nationals hitters. It is unusual that the road team has
won every game thus far.
Before the 2019 season
began, I predicted the Astros would win the World Series, because when the
Astros were eliminated by the Red Sox last year in the playoffs, I knew the
Astros would be very hungry and would have their eye on returning to the Fall
classic.
They have hitting, pitching and they can play defense. They are on a
roll and are one win away from winning the series which I think they will wrap
up in the next game.

Off season game plan - get the best available manager; get Gerritt Cole; re-sign Zack Wheeler; get a strong relief arm.
If that takes us right to the edge of the luxury cap, or even slightly over, it will take us to one more place - THE WORLD SERIES.
MLB Trade Rumors now say Triple-A skipper Tony DeFrancesco has interviewed and may still be in the mix.

Where, if anywhere, has he managed before?
He was in Syracuse last year. Had big lead in final tie braker game and lost. If he is still under consideration by tomorrow I may do an article about him. Also check on my Fonzie manager post to see hiw his players ran or didn't run out infield pop ups. Fonzie's players ran them out and Fonzie was fired. Nuff said.

It will be difficult to guess which manager will get the job, Cole will not sign with the Mets, he would prefer to sign with a west coast team since he's from there
Dodgers abd Angels are said to be all over Cole. Don't see the Mets involved.
