I'm not a happy puppy over this.
We interviewed:
1. one candidate (Maddon) who, if nothing else, will use this interview as a bargaining chip to get more from Gene Autry or whoever the hell owns the Angels these days.
2. another candidate (Buck) who has a proven track record of not getting along with the front office.
3. another candidate (Girardi) who has a proven track record of not getting along with the players in the dugout.
4. and a bunch of others that have no track record at all.
Did we think this out correctly?
We are the top media market in the country. Is this the best we could have done?

I said it before, I'll say it again. They won't pay for a front line manager nor will a front line manager accept the meddling of the front office. To avoid the Mickey Callaway pure rookie mistake, they will go after a guy with minor league managing experience who has not yet had a major league gig and will be grateful enough to kiss the, ahem, ring of the folks in the front office.
Angels hired Joe Maddon. One off the books.
Hobie - Yes, Fonzie. At least give the guy an interview. A guy who wins in your own organization by emphasizing defense, fundamentals, and speed. If you are worried about his press conferences, hire a coach to do the talking. Was Terry Collins or Mickey Callaway a great orator or master of the english language, ah no.
The media and fan base will give Fonzie a hard time however if he manages the bullpen in the majors like he did in the minors. In Brooklyn, he let guys stuggle and try to work out of jams. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it did not. In the minors it is exactly what you want because you want your players to learn and grow. In NY when it does not work media and fans will be all over him.

There saying Girardi actually WANTS the job holy crap sign him up. If they really do sign him you have to figure he won't come on board to be a complete puppet and he does have a winning big league resume and if what Girardi says is true and they don't sign him and go the usual cheap route they have no excuses then if it again blows up their face.
I agree Joe G is the obvious choice but I can't see him putting up with the craziness that is known as the NY Mets.
Get Joe G. He makes the most sense. Maddon just got $12 million for 3 years. $3.5-$4 million a year for a polished manager that can easily add 2-3 wins is a bargain. Do it, Jeff, do it!
