From Tom Brennan... If you were the Mets' GM, who would you be considering to be available as a starter? As a reliever? And when, in what role, and why?
Matz going to the pen could be a very interesting move. He seems to struggle the most when runners get on base. Either he would learn to pitch in those situations or not.

Me?
Starters: Cole, Strasburg, Bumgarner, or Wheeler, in that order.
If they feel Cole will be durable, he could be our Max Scherzer for the next several years.
Relievers: Add one of the following - lefty Will Smith, Steve Cishek, or Daniel Hudson.
I'm old school.
There will be savings from the loss of both Frazier and Lagares, but most of that will be spend on arbitration increases and our new manager's salary.
Yeah, I know... it's not a player's salary but it all comes out of the same pocket.
I would:
1. Go big after Strasburg
2. Still try and work out a multiple year deal with Wheeler
3. And, if they don't work, go inside the franchise with Harol Gonzalez until Thomas Szapucki is ready.
As for relievers, I would convert Stephen Matz to the pen if I could add both Wheeler and Strasburg.
I also would start the season with Stephen Nogosek and Matt Blackham in Queens.
Mack, good plan, but they should have called upand used Harol Gonzalez in Sept if they really wanted to rely on him, as of now, for the start of 2020.
He starts winter ball this week.

John -
Doesn't Matz also pitch better in the first two innings each outing?
