SAVAGE VIEWS – Dear Santa

December 10, 2020

I have been a relatively good kid for most of the year.  I no longer curse at the sound of Wilpons and I have not uttered a vile condemnation of the Yankees in months.  I have a few things on my Christmas wish list and if you deliver I promise to be an even better person in 2021.

On top of my list is a Springer. No, I don’t want the Jerry model.  My preference is the George Springer version.  What’s especially great about this model is that he can hit and hit with power, patrol centerfield with the best of them and has a very nice arm.  I know he is very expensive since he is one of a kind and there are lot of others who have him on their wish list too.  He would really look great in a Mets uniform.

If getting a Springer does not work out, I would happily settle for a Realmuto.  This model is known as JT and he would instantly transform my team into something special.  He, too, is going to be expensive but somebody will pay the price.  It might as well be us.  JT is so athletic I could see him manning another position if his catching skills deteriorate.  I remember Joe Torre playing an adequate third base for the Cardinals before ending his career at first.

I know a number of fans would love to see a Lindor in their Christmas stockings this year.  I’ve already ordered my chocolates from my two favorite retailers in New England so I prefer to pass on the version from Cleveland.  So, please, please, please do not give me any Lindor this year.  My pantry is well stocked with an assortment of Rosario, Gimenez and Mauricio.

Now that we have added one Trevor in May, there is room for at least one more.  A Bauer would look good under the tree.  If not, perhaps we can add another Jake to the mix. Odoruzzi might be worth taking a chance on.  Having two Jakes may not be a bad thing. “Two Jakes” is a great name for a movie – wonder if Jack Nicholson is available.

Santa, if I can come away with two out of three I will be a happy camper going into 2021.  I promise to tolerate everyone except those affiliated with the Yankees or Dodgers.  After all, nobody can be expected to be perfect all the time.

Do you hear what I hear?  There’s a nasty rumor going around that the Mets are not in for the top 30 international prospects.  Somebody explain that to me.

I am now officially brain dead and have decided to take the rest of the year off.  I’ll be back in January hopefully with something interesting to say.  Wishing all of you a happy holiday season and a safe and healthy New Year especially to Mack and his wife.

Ray
