Trenton 12,000, B-Mets Meh

Boy, couldn’t wait to get this one over with.

Let’s see… who went into the tank… err… everybody.

SP Eric Niesen probably wished he slept in… 4.0 IP, 9H, 7ER, 12.00. Niesen is one the many Mets starters that only have a chance of making it to Queens as a reliever. We’ve already seen Dylan Owen and Jake Ruckle make the switch, and don’t be surprised guys like Niesen, Mike Antonini, and Scott Shaw don’t make the conversion over the next year and a half.

C Josh Thole had a couple more hits. I love this kid. He’s making hitting .350 look easy. Word I have is he’s on the no-trade list for a couple of reasons. One, he’s playing great, and two, the last thing Omar wants in another Jesus Flores fiasco. No, Thole will make it to Queens, probably in 2011, but the question still remains if he has what it takes to start there. I expect the Mets to take this question off the table by signing a long term deal with one of the FA catchers in the off-season.

I thought it was very nice for Nick Evans to be called back up to the Mets, but I wonder what the motive is. Are they really going to give him the chance to win the 1B job, or is he just being showcased for a trade that will never be pulled off. Let’s face it, the Mets just don’t have the horses to pull off a blockbuster deal this season. There simply aren’t enough “A” prospects in the Mets AAA/AA system. Fernando Martinez and Brad Holt are hands off, which leaves you one top prospect, SP Jenry Mejia. You need more than that to get a real first baseman.
