1. 2B Mark Kiger joined 3B Richard Lucas rehabbing at GCL… both don’t look to figure in the Mets plans next season, but I guess there are reasons to keep them around for the remainder of this year, what with all the injuries… CF Javier Rodriquez (.125) did finally get his first hit this season and SP Yohan Almonte had another good outing (6.0-IP, 2-ER, 3-K, 1-BB, 1.37). RP Marcos Tabata had his worst outing for the season (1.0-IP, 1-ER, 9.00). His season ERA rose to 1.74.
2. Lots of observations from my attending the Savannah game on Wednesday:
a. Had a nice conversation with DH/C Jordan Abruzzo. This is Bruizer’s third visit to Savannah, and he’s limited to DH duty due to being unable to throw up to pro standards, from his off the season surgery. He looks to be fully healed by the 2010 season, but he still packs a mean bat, witnessed by him knocking in the third run Wednesday.
b. 2B Josh Satin was kept out of the game after his small ding the night before. Some of the scouts were commenting on the general opinion (when the season begun) that Satin was a horrible defensive second baseman. The truth is he has played wonderfully this season and has only three errors. Satin has definitely earned a bump to Lucy.
c. Speaking of bumps, the general consensus from the scouting contingent on hand was Satin, Robert Carson, Sean Ratliff, Wilmer Flores, Jeurys Familia, and Rhiner Cruz have all earned a bump to Lucy next season, rather than just being sent there for their age and experience.
d. No one seems to understand why Carson isn’t already there.
e. The only general consensus negative comment on Cruz, was his performances when he’s brought in when there isn’t a save opportunity. He’s 17 for 17 chances, and has given up only one earned run during those 17 opportunities, by his ERA goes off the chart in the other direction when the game isn’t on the line. Mental? Probably.
f. Flores hit in his 27th game in the last 33, including 10-multi hit games. Also, he batted .309 in June.
g. Got a chance to radar gun/chart SP Jeurys Famila… excellent outing… came out throwing 91-92… fastball sat all day at 93, hit 94 twice and 95 once (strike out looking in the fourth inning)… “10-6” curve in 78-80 range… very effective… 4-sean topped at 92… nice defensive play tagging out runner down first base… definitely all of 6-3 listed… looks to be approaching 6-4.
h. Re: Wilmer Flores: slight built… lost all his baby fat from a year ago, especially on his face… looks awkward in the field, but gets the job done… excellent range towards second base… superior bat speed… taken out after 5 innings for precautionary (hurt wrist on swing) reasons…
i. Re: Jenry Marte: just doesn’t seem baseball smart… makes many mental mistakes in field, both fielding and running… faster on the base path than Flores… experts in stands have a nickname for him: “E-5”…. Body is hip heavy… excellent bat speed…
3. Cesar Puello is off suspension and back in the K-Port lineup. The problem is SP Guillieme Leduc through up a couple of ducks and give up seven runs in the first two innings…
4. Re the Clones, Brandon Moore pitched another 8.0 innings, 9-K, and 2-ER, which is a ton for him… his ERA is now 0.87, his record is 4-0 in 5 outings, and his K/IP is rising to 33/37… he’s 23 years old and it sure would be nice to see him help the Gnats make the playoffs… plus he’s 9-1 in rookie/short ball in the past two years and, frankly, it’s time.

Very surprised the scouts were talking about Satin being a horrible fielder at second base. This season he has made all the plays at second base and is good at turning the double play.To me he looks like a Gold Glove candidate at second. This year he has also filled in at first base and third base and has fielded those positions flawlessly.
Wally, all that stemmed from an interview Satin had last year with someone in Brooklyn, after making an error. He told the reporter that he was a horrible fielder, which obviously, he meant in jest, but the reporter printed the quote and so was born the bad field rap.
