Wednesday's Minor Thoughts

Minors Thoughts – Wednesday July 8

1. Okay… technically one of the transactions took place last night, not exactly in the order I wanted but one of the guys I would sell or demote, IF Argenis Reyes, has been demoted back to AAAA- land, and SP Oliver Perez has been promoted…. We don’t know what the Mets rotation will look like, but I assume it’s come combination of Perez, Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Levon Hernandez, and I guess for now, Frankie Nieve. The demotion of Reyes means the team wants to hold onto Elmer Dessens a ilttle longer, and it seems to me that Fernando Tatis will temporarily move to the infield. Good start guys…. Don’t look for John Maine to pull this mess out. His rehab looks like a long way off.

2. SS Ruben Tejada was back in the lineup Tuesday night, so all is well with the quiet prospect. Obviously, the injury was a small one and, though the game was rained out, it will be interesting if he plays both ends of the doubleheader today.

3. http://www.baseballamercia.com/ came out with their weekly minor league transactions today and we learned a few things about some forgotten players… there must have been an unauthorized party at Duffy’s one night (sic) because P Mike Hebert, P John Holdzkom. P Alex Merricks, P Brian Valenzuela, and prospect OF Javier Rodriquez all made the suspension list… placed on the restriction list, which I guess is one good step above suspension, was P Thomas Peredes, P Raul Batis, P Tim Erickson, SS Ignacio Medrano, and OF Matt McCarney. Two others, P Julio de la Cruz, and 3B James Schroeder, were placed on the 7-day DL.

4. Cut recently were P Cole Abbott, IF Tyler Vaughn, IF Richard Lucas, SS Jonathan Santos, C Patrick Maat, P Gavin Dloughy, P Jonathan Castillo, P Jorge Rodriquez, IF J.R. Voyles, IF Matt Smith, IF Valentin Ramos, and C Cesar Cordido.

5. This leaves me with no one in extended camp other than the walking wounded and the kids sitting with the dunce caps on:

6. The DSL Mets won last night, 10-3, against the DSL Dodgers… the 13-hit attack included home runs from 2B Yucarybert De La Cruz (.282), and CF Eudy Pina (.293)… 1B Alexander Sanchez (.362) and SS Randoll Santana (.350 each had three hits… the game included a pitching gem by Hansel Robles (6.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 9-K, 2.96). Closer Carlos Vasquez (1.53) had his 6th save.

7. I had a lot of fun today corresponding with the “regulars from http://www.metsblog.com/. Matt Cerrone made mention of one of my columns, “The Selling Of The Mets”, which resulted in a ton of people linking over to my site. All of us in the Mets blog-world consider Matt the God of Mets Blogs (G.O.M.B.) and we pray every night that he adds us to the link post he puts up every morning. Hell, my revenue alone today went from $0.04 to $.08 for the day!!! LOL… Seriously, thanks Matt and thanks to all of you who agreed with me, in principle, if not in specific changes I suggested.

8. Only roster changes prior to tonight’s games was the transfer of hardluck catcher/DH Jordan Abruzzo back to Savannah for a third stint. Abruzzo has always hit, but just can't seem to find a full-time gig with any of the Mets teams. Sorry, Jordan... I'll see ya over the weekend.

9. Let me throw this out… don’t be surprised if SP Jonathan Niese isn’t back in Queens by the weekend.

10. And lastly, let me throw another longer ball… don’t be surprised if SP Johan Santana isn’t shut down shortly.

Mack
