Dillon Gee – SP – AAA – still on the disabled list
Mike Antonini – SP – AA – pitched three good innings of relief on June 28, yielding 0-ER. I understand he is back in the Binghamton rotation and will pitch this weekend. In once sense, I wish they would leave him in the pen because it probably will be the only way he could someday make Queens. That being said, if you want to shop him, start him.
Emary Frederick – RP – A+ - June 28: 2.1 scoreless innings… June 29: 0.2 scoreless innings… at that point, Frederick hadn’t given up a run in his last four outings, totaling seven innings. July 2: 0.2-IP, 0-ER… now five outings, 7.2 innings… Frederick is maturing wonderfully and has a good chance of sitting in the CitiField en sometime in late 2010.
Greg Veloz – 2B – A+ - I always remind people that Veloz is streaky… last ten games: .094. Frankly, I think he’s in the dog house after not running out a pop fly. Either way, no one seems to be worrying about who the future second baseman is going to be someday for the Mets. The 2009 play of Luis Castillo and the versatility of Alex Cora has changed all that. Veloz needs to break out of this slump or he’s wind up like recent infield prospects (Hector Pellot and Juan Legares).
Scott Shaw – SP – A+ - June 29: 5.2-IP, 2-ER, 6-H, 7-K, 4-BB… Shaw’s a control pitcher that no one ever seems to notice. He has started 14 games so far this season and has a respectful 3-4, 3.59 record.
Jeffrey Kaplan – SP – A+ - June 28: 6.2-IP, 6-R, 0-ER, 6-K, 2-BB… even though none of the six runs were earned, you can’t help hold some portion of that against a pitcher. Still adjusting to the A+ level.
Jenry Marte – 3B – A – As we have said in previous weekly reports, we’re giving the kid a push this year. Too many strikeouts, too many errosr, and not enough hits. Only hit .244 in the last ten games.
Sean Ratliff – OF – A – The hitting star of the Sand Gnats, though he has just finished a miserable run where he has hit only .114 in the last ten games.
Eric Beaulac – SP – A – Beaulac pitched 4.0 scoreless innings on June 27, and returned to starting on July 2: 6.0-IP, 9-K, 1-BB, 2-ER… year ERA now 2.74… 65-K/56.1-IP
Rhiner Cruz – CL – A – June 29: 1.0-IP, 0-ER… July 1: 1.0-IP, 0-ER, save… July 2: 0.0-IP, 2-BB… Cruz has been a workhorse for the Gnats and escaped Friday night with 0-ER… seasonal ERA: 2.09
James Fuller – RP – low-A - Fuller continues his return to being a starter in 2009, and his early dominance at the low-A level. He has pitched two times this year, June 24 and June 30, and has stated 2-0, 0.69, 13.0-IP, 13-K. So far, so good.
Mark Cohoon – SP – low-A – June 26: 7.0-IP, 1-ER, 6-K… July 2: 8.0-IP, 0-ER, 8-K… 1.35 ERA. Cohoon should have started this season at Savannah and might have had an injury the Mets never talked about.
Michael Powers – RP – saved the Fuller start on June 30, going 1.0, 0-ER… year ERA: 0.00. His combined record this season at Brooklyn and Savannah: 1-0, 2.37, in 13 games, two saves.
Brandon Moore – SP – low-A – Second outing of the year June 29 and it’s just as good as the first one… 7.0-IP, 1-ER, 9-K, 1-BB… yearly ERA still 0.00.
Cesar Puello – OF – K-Port – The 18-year old hit .310 in his last ten games. Hit .305 for the GCL Mets last year as a 17-year old.
