Positional Progress

By -  Mack Ade

This is pure speculation.

The Mets positional projection is far more volatile than the rotation; however, it too will change drastically from now to opening day 2014.

This is just one scenario.

4-1-12 – 1B Ike Davis, 2B Daniel Murphy, SS Ruben Tejada, 3B David Wright, C Josh Thole, LF Jason Bay, CF Andres Torrez, RF Lucas Duda

9-1-12 Davis, 2B Jordany Valdespin, Tejada, Murphy, Thole, LF Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Torrez, Duda.

4-1-13 – Davis, 2B Reese Havens, Tejada, Murphy, Thole, Nieuwenhuis, CF Matt den Dekker, Duda.

4-1-14 – Davis, Havens, Tejada, 3B Wilmer Flores, C Juan Centeno, Nieuwenhuis, den Dekker, Duda

Stop putting Reese Havens in your projections - your casting the evil upon him.

I'm sorry. Everything is my fault this month :)

I particularly was interested who was working out at second base on the back fields this spring and, of cource, all the usual suspects were there, but so are both Danny Muno and Phillip Evans.

The Mets are going to have to convert one of tese guys to second NOW if they want both of them playing for a full season team come April.

Havens' injury is more serious for the Mets than I think they'd care to admit. Since they didn't make a big free agent signing, or otherwise improve the roster, I'm sure they are hoping to make a splash by having a promising youngster win an openning day roster. In my view, Havens is a great candidate for that.

The other obvious candidate is Harvey. I seriously hope they resist the temptation to rush Harvey to the majors for the sake of short term ticket sales.

Havens injury will not go away. A bad back is a bad back.

I don't see Harvey being rushed, no matter what he does this spring. The Mets know that 2012 isn't their year, but 2014 could be.
