Draft 14 – Scott Blewett, Alex Verdugo, Drew Lugbauer, Jayce Vancena, Jacob Gatewood
10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 7. Scott Blewett, RHP, Syracuse Sports Zone (Baker High, Baldwinsville, N.Y./St. John's) - Looks like a big leaguer at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds and already can reach 96 mph with riding life on his fastball. http://ht.ly/qi5No
10-15-13 – Baseball America - 34. Alex Verdugo, lhp/of, Sahuaro HS, Tucson, Ariz.: He’s a legitimate prospect both ways thanks to his feel for hitting, and a smooth delivery with a fastball up to 93 mph on the mound. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/
10-28-13 – Jim Callis - The Sports Zone had a pair of intriguing up-the-middle players. Cr Drew Lugbauer showed off arm strength (erasing Cameron on an attempted steal of third base in the first inning) and power (pulling a home run over the right-field fence in the second). The Michigan recruit is big for a catcher at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds. http://ht.ly/qeYJz
10-27-13 – PG Showcase – RHP Jayce Vancena (Lake HS, Millbury, Ohio) tossed four innings, allowing two hits and walking none, while striking out two. He settled in around 87-88 with modest boring action, revving up to 90 on occasion during two-strike counts or against the heart of the Scorpions lineup. He mixed in a curveball that has improved since East Coast Pro at 73-74 with 11-5 shape, though the pitch is still round and lacks bite. His best offspeed offering may have been his 78-79 slider, though he used it as his secondary breaking ball. He seldom mixed in a changeup at 81. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/
