Are u guys serious? U like this deal? This $10 mil plus 7.5 mil for chris young, I would have rather spent 7 mil more for Cano. This general manager doesn't know what he is doing, he is picking up all of Billy Beanes leftovers. Both these deals remind me of the frank Francisco deal!!' HORRIBLE DEALS

Yes, Cano alone would be better than Young and Colon, but the Mets only have $5mil more to spend and they would have spent their entire budget on one player.

I'm not crazy about the 2nd year of the deal but it's a solid move. He's a good fit for pitching at Citi. Personally I see him as the SP3 with Gee SP4. This is a clear sign that the Mets aim to compete in 2014. You now have four starters with the potential of 12-15 wins this coming season. They have a rotation that can at the very least hold their own with those of the Nats and Braves.
Colon won't be around for 2 years.
This is an example of a classic Sandy move that will result in him trading off Colon once Syndergaard becomes comfortable in the rotation... another Beltran for top prospect type deal
Mack-Possibly, but if the Mets are in contention come the trading deadline I don't see them moving him. If they're out of it, sure I could definitely see that happening.
I think he's here to be the steady veteran anchoring a young and somewhat inexperienced (particularly when you add Montero and Syndegaard to the mix) rotation.
I see Colon as Sandy's insurance policy against any setbacks with Harvey. Don't forget in 2015, 3/5 of your rotation will be on inning limits. Colon is around to hold the fort in 2014 and to eat up those innings in 2015.
Bartolo is going a future trade bait. Maybe 2top 20 players.

This is an excellent signing on several fronts. Signing a legit #3 starter makes the Mets rotation much better and with the addition of Granderson and Young to bolster the offense, puts them in a position to be very competitive in 2014. Perhaps of equal importance, it sends a message to the fans (at least those fans with an open mind who don't arbitrarily bash everything the Mets do) that the Mets fully intend to compete in 2014 despite the loss of Harvey, and they are not merely looking past this year to 2015. Lastly, it demonstrates that the so called "budget" is more elastic than many thought it was.
The really good thing about it being a 2 year deal is that Sandy now has so many options at his fingertips. If the Mets are clearly out of the race in July, and Thor and Montero look ready at AAA, he could trade Colon at the deadline. Otherwise, I would guess he looks to move Colon next off season and bring back a couple of high level prospects if Colon has had a strong season. BUT, if Harvey is not 100% next spring and any of the other starters are having problems, he can always keep Colon into 2015, and then move him at the deadline that year.

Overall I think it was a good move and given the options today probably the best choice. Two years on a 40+ PED-convicted guy doesn't thrill me, but that's what it takes in this runaway market. All pitchers are a risk, Colon is a bigger risk than most, but I would rather have 2 years of Colon than 2 years of Arroyo.
Time to corral a legit bullpen arm and then see what the market presents for trading a 1B and/or finding a SS upgrade.

Plus this is short term. Cano for 10 years is just plain crazy. The Mariners will be regretting the last 3-5 years of that contract.
Yes. A short term contract with potential to bring in a long term top prospect. I love it.
