I'm sorry the Mets (at least) didn't get a shot here.

Great teams with happy players get contracts renewed much easier than teams like the Mets.

Look for Nelson Cruz to follow.

While I too am disappointed, this is an interesting development.

Amongst free agent SS, Hardy was tied as the leader in fWar at 3.4.

The person he tied with, Hanley Ramirez, is in a class all his own since he is one of the top offensive threats in the whole market.

But for the rest of the SS market, this presumably sets a ceiling for potential deals. So in theory no one is going to easily get more than $13.3m / season.

I was thinking just the opposite...that Hardy already coming off the market before the Hot Stove season began is going to skyrocket the price of other shortstop options in a now-dwindling supply.

I think this guarantees a record deal for Ramirez

Reese:

I can hear the opening day announcer now: "starting at SS, Wil-mer Flo-res"

Mack's right - somewhere, we have to become the team that players will want to sign with, even at a discount, because they are winning and happy. One ingredient to "happy" is happier hitting dimensions.

No way Hanley Ramirez' new deal exceeds the contract extension the Rockies gave Troy Tulowitzki.
