CLAIMED - OF - Andrew Brown

The A’s announced that they’ve claimed outfielder Andrew Brown off waivers from the Mets.
Brown, 30, received 49 plate appearances for the Mets this season and batted .182/.245/.341 with a pair of homers. He’s seen action in parts of four big league seasons between the Mets, Rockies and Cardinals, compiling a batting line of .220/.281/.390. As indicated by that .170 ISO (slugging minus average), Brown does possess some pop that likely appealed to the A’s. His Triple-A numbers are indicative of that power as well, as he owns a lifetime .298/.380/.555 slash at that level.

Well.....this is equal to my prediction of a non-tender for Brown.

A 30 homer DH next year? Time will tell.

One down on the 40-man juggle.

Looking forward to your next installment, Chris.

It is a sign of the advances on the Mets Minor League System that 40 man roster spots can not be occupied by AAAA players. I like Brown, but he had his shots and there is a need to protect 7 or 8 high talent prospects on the 40 man roster this Winter in The Rule 5 draft. I wish him well.

By my count, 40-man now is at 37...

Figure 2 spots will be filled with Harvey and Parnell

and there goes Centeno

Centeno was claimed. Can he be pulled back (or dealt)?

These aren't revocable waivers so no

Damn.....centeno comes as a bit of a shock....the team always carries 3 catchers on the 40 man and plawecki does not need to be protected this off-season.

A spot may have just opened for Xorge Carrillo

Question for you guys who've been around a little longer here:

For a guy like Josh Satin who was outrighted off the 40 man roster today, what is next for him? I'm sure he can keep trying to latch on with another club or play in Japan but for an almost 30 year old, what's next?

There are hundreds of these guys every year that are forced out due to younger players moving up, leaving them with nowhere else to go.

Do these guys wind up in scouting, coaching or something completely unrelated?

Go luck Josh!

Wow, Centeno let go.....a lefty hitter and plus defender and arm........are we really gonna have Recker and his .200 BA back for a full season?
Interesting that Eveland already let go. Left reliever prospects been a little shaky, so I wonder if they plan to sign a lefty reliever in the free agent market.

this is probably it for Satin, especially as a Met

So far so good on Puello I guess

Kevin, if Satin can make decent bucks in Japan, if I were him, I'd go. He'd probably do well there. I do not see a future for him in bigs - he is AAAA - and barely that.

At least he can say he got his chance.

I read Sandy making comments that indicated his high regard for Plawecki and his desire to keep both. Maybe that's our platoon next year. Be a heckuva catching position for 162 games.
